What's YOUR favourite?
First of all, I apologise for THAT image. No-one ever said venturing into The Fortress was risk-free. Christmas is almost upon us and you know what? I'm actually rather looking forward to it. Its always the same - once the present buying and the cards and all that shit gets out of the way, its not a bad time at all. What, spending time with my family, getting presents and getting drunk? What's not to like about that? Anyway, Christmas wouldn't be Christmas without Christmas MOVIES. When you really think about it, its staggering to think just how many there actually are - some good, some bad - some downright hideous. Here's good ol' Wikipedia with a helpful reminder to get your brain running.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Christmas_filmsIts a weird genre because not all Christmas films are 100% about Christmas per se, unlike, say, Santa Claus: The Movie or Miracle On 34th Street. Over in Britain, the James Bond movies have become something of a Christmas staple, as has the likes of Wizard Of Oz and, I'm sure will become a tradition - Harry Potter. Not Christmas movies at all, but something everyone enjoys watching at this time of year. So what's your favourite Christmas movie? I think mine has to be Gremlins. Not an immediately obvious choice, I suppose, but its still a wickedly enjoyable satire and even now in the days of CGI the Gremins themselves still look awesome. Best bit? When they're out carol singing and then all cackle and plump back down into the snow and scurry off. Just a brilliant, funny family film - full of enough wit, action and "awwww" moments for everyone to enjoy. So that's The Curmudgeon's pick of festive films. And yours.....?

I'm going to be a wuss and go with a safe choice since christmas movies aren't exactly my forte'. Good call on "Gremlins", but I have to admit I love "A Christmas Story" the most; that film just never gets old. As for the James Bond thing, America has picked up on that recently and we are now treated the "The 007 Days of Christmas" each year on basic cable. We also get a Bond marathon on Thanksgiving (sans the clever title) so I can get my fill of Connery (still the king), Moore, and the rest each year, much to my wife's chagrin.

Hi guys.
This is my first post here, but I've been on here a few times and read some of the articles. Without sounding like a suckup, I've really enjoyed what I've read so far. Keep up the good work Curmudgeon!
I first came upon the site through reading your hate-filled Amazon review of the Psycho II book (mother didn't like it either)
My favourite Christmas movie, however, has to be Its A Wonderful Life. Gets me every time! I think its not only the best Christmas movie of all time, but one of THE best movies of all time. And so you just know some Hollywood numbnuts is gonna remake it with 50 Cent or something.

Hey, welcome to the site Norman! Its been VERRRRY quiet around here the past couple of days, so while its always nice to see a new face, to see ANY face around here right now is a Godsend.
Ah, "It's A Wondeful Life". My wife is trying to install some kind of Christmas tradition on us now where we have to watch this every year. While it IS great and everything, I'd much rather have us watch Re-Animator every Christmas. Not exactly festive, granted, but there are no talking heads in HER choice..

Trashy - speaking of Bond - what did you make of the new movie (I still haven't seen it yet).

I haven't had a chance to see it either. I seldom get into the theater these days, so I'll most likely have to wait for the DVD. "The Daily Show" posed a fantastic question about "Casino Royale" the other day, though: "Is America ready to accept a British James Bond?". That really cracked me up, I just had to share.
On another note, I'll welcome Mr. Bates (love your movies, man) as well. That comment about Fiddy Cent (as they call him here) being cast in a "It's a Wonderful Life" is as funny as it is terrifying; terrifying because it could very well happen. Sure, Hollywood is content to desecrate classic horror films for now, but when they run out of those where will they go? "Casablanca" starring Snoop Dogg and Jessica Simpson? God, I need to shut up; I could be giving them ideas.

Even part 4. Not the greatest film ever, but how many horror franchises make it that far without becoming entirely unwatchable? All things considered, the "Psycho" movies are pretty damn good.

I haven't seen it for years, I just remember being awed that they actually went flat out to make my namesake the "hero" of the movie.
But yeah, its never anything short of watchable, and is better than most "part IV"'s of horror sequels.
