So Mrs C was given an early Christmas present from her folks - Singstar for the PS3. Now there's two things she likes a lot - karaoke and competitions, so compiling the two was an absolute no-brainer.
Unlike my good lady, I can't sing to save my life. I sometimes sing karaoke but it's always in the "ha ha, I'm not taking this too seriously" mold (which, obviously it should be anyway) and always with a limited range of songs (sadly, Prince is never an option). So the first song to be fired up on Singstar was Macy Gray's "I Try."
At first I thought I was totally trouncing Mrs C, and thought I'd discovered a fatal flaw in the game itself. You know how with those Eye-Toy games you can move your controller and it counts as movement? I thought it'd be the same here. So I just followed the words and put on a Macy Gray silly voice, and my score was going through the roof. Turns out I was player 2 and not player 1 though, and I was actually comically awful. Damn. I then proceeded to almost blow my fucking throat out attempting Living on a Prayer, fists pumping and jumping on furniture and everything.
But it really is a fun (if expensive) piece of kit. Mrs C's already bought about £20 of new songs, with Ash, 1990s, Dandy Warhols, Bowie and Lady GaGa all getting downloaded ("we'll have the coolest Singstar list" apparently). As party games go, though, it's addictive and even fun to WATCH.
So has anyone else got in on this yet? Dignity left outside, of course.

Sorry. I'm a Rock Band/Guitar Hero guy. Or at least I was before they started putting out 10 games a year. You can sing on those, but the music is better and I can't sing (as you've heard) so I prefer just playing instruments. My wife is decent at singing, but she's just not a video game person and she doesn't know too many of the songs so I've only coaxed her into it a few times. You need to post a vid here of you rocking Macy Gray. I'd pay for it. So how much does a music game with no instruments run?

We've not bought any of the actual game discs yet (we got two free with the pack, one is a "various" list with stuff like Weezer, Blink 182 and Outkast on it) and the other is a High School Musical disc, something Mrs C refused to even load up. I was.. willing.. to give it a go, but no.
So the individual tracks actually cost more than a song from iTunes, but then you are getting the actual video with it as well, I suppose. Still packs a mean punch to the wallet when you go browsing for tunes, though.
It's something Mrs Trash (that just sounds wrong) might like better than Rock Band, though, 'cos there really is, and I feel like I now work for the fucking company, Something For Everyone (thumbs up).
