This next one kinda depresses me. Not that the band have split up or the lead singer is dead or anything like that. It's just comparing their MOR, folk-y sound of today to their vibrant, raw sound of their earlier years is almost damn heartbreaking. Today's band in question is Idlewild, a Scottish rock band who, with their first EP and album, were described as a band who will "create something that will make us redefine what music means." Or something laughably pretentious like that (thank you, NME). I've seen the band about four or five times now, and when they play their first few records you feel like you could almost kiss the sky. Hey, I'm allowed pretension too. www.youtube.com/watch?v=6q7psMSlcf4&feature=relatedEnjoy?

Well... maybe "folk" is a push, but certainly down the dreaded AOR route. You never get excited about an Idlewild record anymore, that's for sure, but their first EP "Captain" and the "Hope is Important" albums are still regularly and religiously played by me. I love messy, fucked up sounding rock music.
