Damn, is it me or are the weeks totally rushing past now I started this? I always check the date of the last one, and no WAY does that seem like seven days ago. Scary. Anywho, onwards and upwards, and this time I thought I'd go over the pond again, and to a band who will forever be labelled a one-hit wonder. Presidents of the United States of America will probably only be remembered for "Peaches", even though they're still going now. I've had a long love-affair with this band, not only for that song but for the strength and quality of Chris Ballew's song writing. Smart, funny, catchy songs made not with the intent to shift units, but for the sheer joy of making music. Researching Chris Ballew reveals a guy absolutley in love with making music; whether it's studio albums as the Presidents, solo work or for a band of stuffed animals (that would be The Giraffes). I made it my mission in life to see this band live, because they dropped off the radar for a good few years. When they eventually played the UK (both dates sold out), it was like meeting up with an old friend. Those gigs were some of the very best I've ever been to. Novelty songs come and go, but the Presidents are anything but a novelty band. So I'm not going to play anything from their first album, but I will play the first single off the second album, mainly because this thread was the first time I'd ever actually seen the video myself. www.youtube.com/watch?v=WFhsp4tUqoo

The inventor of the bassitar, a novelty act? Nevah! The video won't play over here. "Lump" is actually their most recogizable song (Weird Al parody and everything), but "Peaches" is one of the best music videos ever made.

Lump didn't really make a dent over here, but if you mention the Presidents to most people in the UK, if they remember them at all they go, "oh, what? Millions of Peaches?" Pretty annoying.
And you've heard of the Bassitar! YES! Annoying that the link doesn't work (it was for Mach 5, if you've heard of it). This whole "not available in your country" shit is getting fucking old fucking fast.
