There's a "leaked" (read: probably fake) pic garnering all kinds of excitement on the net.. say a possible hello to the PS4. www.walyou.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/new-ps4-game-consoel-conceptual-design.jpgSo it's still a conceptual design, but really - what's the difference? OK, the console itself looks like a toilet bowl now, but the controller itself is still the same as well, except.. ooooh, the middle bit is clear. At first glance I thought the control pad was split into two Wii style nunchuk things, with additional buttons. That's surely more of an advancement? Anyway.. it could be real, it could be fake, it could just be an early design. But you saw it here first regardless.

Yes I did. That is one beautiful machine. Wouldn't surprise me a bit that Sony is already looking past the PS3. That fucker damn near put them out of business. It's also likely that Blu-ray isn't going to have any legs so I'd be shocked to not see a new Playstation before Nintendo and Microsoft are done supporting their current consoles. After all, they actually MAKE money on theirs. Sony is not about to make the same colossal series of mistakes twice. They're striking early next time.

So, wait, is the PS3 really struggling so badly? I thought Sony would be in the black for that machine by now. What's causing it to fail so badly?

A) It cost more to make than what they were asking for it even when it was double the other consoles' price.
B) Because of A, they didn't have the money to secure decent third-party support or exclusives. In other words, very few games to call their own.
C) It took them so long to get it put out that ever gamer already had at least one of the competitor's console in their home.
D) For the first year or so of release you could buy BOTH a 360 and a Wii for less than ONE PS3.
E) Game developers have stated it's a difficult machine to work with and so all of their flagship titles took YEARS to develop while the competitors kicked out game after game.
F) Sony has failed to live up to any of their hype. At the end of the day, most games play better on the 360 and the graphical difference is negligible in spite of all the extra power.
G) They've been unwilling to innovate and so they've just been watching Nintendo and Microsoft and copying what they do after the tech is already old news.
PS3 sales have picked up a lot since the price came down, but when you screw up that much and that often from the start there's just no way to recover once the consumers are pouring all of their money into your competitors. Shoot, at this point I'd buy one but I just don't have time or money for another console in my life. I'm well-fed from a gaming standpoint.
