The Curmudgeon is, of course, an admirer of Lou Reed. His work needs no explanation here, but whilst the likes of Walk on the Wild Side and his material with the Velvet Underground are cast-iron classics, the same really can't be said for Metal Machine Music. Some call it a masterpiece, some call it a final "fuck you" to a record label Reed wanted rid of. A pioneer in industrial metal or a migrane set to music? An album of no real tracks, here's a choice, er, "cut" from it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=_9mOXj-m5hg65 minutes the album lasts. More than an hour of THAT. So.. could you survive it?

Electronica without the beat. Why not? If I can rock out with Melt Banana Lite right in front of my face, I can sure as hell deal with Lou Reed's noise album. I sure wouldn't pay for it, though. Needs more high-voiced screaming Japanese chicks.

Yeah, I think with some lyrics I could.. deal with it. But 65 minutes of pure fucking grinding NOISE? It's like the metal soundtrack to Eraserhead.

Seriously. I can imagine the kind of acid trips inspired by listening to that for hours on end. In fact, that's probably exactly what inspired Eraserhead.
