Introductions first; Mark Kermode is a British film critic renowned for his love of cult horror and sci-fi. He used to have a feature on radio every Friday afternoon, and I pretty much point blank refused to do anything at work while it was on. His never ending praise for the Wicker Man caused me to blind buy it and his favourite film ever is the Exorcist. In short - he's one of us. Anyway, now you know who's in this video. You won't need an introduction to who he's talking about, though. www.youtube.com/watch?v=C3XtdeEXqh8So, yes, I would LOVE to go to this exhibit but, alas, London is a little out of my way. But still, how good would THIS be..? I've never actually went to any film/comic/music exhibition like this. Anyone ever been to something as awesome looking as this?

"They're old fashioned movies. Why do you love them?" That's why. They have Bubo, there! And life-size Medusa! I was pleased to walk into FYE the other day and see that the DVD of the original Clash of the Titans was in the top 10 selling DVD's of the week right behind the remake. That tells me that people saw the new one and thought "why the fuck did I just pay to see that?" and immediately went out and bought the original. So I suppose that garbage serves a purpose after all.

Man, after Medusa, Bubo would be the model, sorry, "creature", I would totally go see first too! Mechanical comedy sidekick owls.. why is there only one? And why did it have more personality than anyone in the remake?
Actually, you know what? I LIKED the remake. I went to the cinema expecting it to be shit and.. well, I came out pleasantly surprised. I don't know if it was the whizz-bang WOW factor cinema sometimes has on me (I came out of "Independence Day" thinking I'd just seen Jesus), but I thought Clash was pretty good. Not as good as the original, in terms of character or charm (the Gods SUCKED. Oh no, it's Emo-Hades!) but I won't lie and say I hated it. I.. kinda liked it.

Oh hey, you might get a kick out of this one. A UK band called The Hoosiers had a pretty big hit with "Worried About Ray", a song dedicated to, and apparantly inspired by, Harryhausen. The Hoosiers are total nerds (their next song was dedicated to the Steve Ditko character Mr A, but this one is an affectionate nod to the stop-motion specialist (look who's head ends up in the fridge!) This is the official Youtube video, so it may not work in the States. www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtpeiXgBiIA&ob=av3nIf not, try this one.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=a0PK2wZEFIc&feature=relatedIt's a shame I don't like these guys more, but damn, that lead singer is annoying.

Sony Music Entertainment is becoming quite the thorn in my side. No joy on either. Saw the Clash remake last night. Not bad. Could have been waaaaaaay better in a lot of ways, but I enjoyed watching it.

God when I hear the first lines of the verses on that, all I think is "Imagine me and you, and you and me. No matter how you toss the dice, it has to be..."

Yeah, what he said. I have no idea what those lyrics are from. Educate me, damn you. So the video worked? Excellent. Metacafe may well be the way forward. You had pretty much the same reaction I had with the remake. I enjoyed it, certainly, and thought the effects were superb. But I do agree with Mark Kermode that they lacked any of the character that Harryhausen's did. Medusa wasn't anywhere near as hideous and frightening, and you saw a LOT more of her than the original. What is the cover of the DVD you have? The remake's DVD cover is the hero (I forget his name, I'll give him a MST3K sounding name, Flex McBuffchest) holding Medusa's severed head. Way to blow the ending for anyone who hasn't actually seen the original, dickheads.

I actually loved the model for Medusa. She was, after all, supposed to be an exceptionally beautiful woman so the softer facial features I thought were a nice touch and kind of disturbing. I liked the way that scene played out until the chase section started. I prefer Medusa as a methodical and collected hunter. She has no reason to rush when the ball is in her court. They have to come to HER, and all she needs to do is catch their eye to win so I love the way she was portrayed in the original. Practically invincible. In the remake she ws flying all over the place and chasing Perseus all over and it was all so.... Hollywood. And what was with the Bubo cameo? That was the lamest case of winking at the audience I've ever seen. "Oh look, we just happen to have this working mechanical owl in this box over here. [holds up towards camera] Remember that? Eh?! EH!?" God, that was dumb and pointless.

Oh, and about that song:
I find it REAL hard to believe you've never heard that one.

Why would Bubo even BE there? It made zero sense. I know it was an in-joke and everything, but damn.. clunky as hell. AND it just made me wish he was in the rest of the movie afterwards.
Turtles song - ah, yes. That one. Yeah, I know it. Man, that guy looked out of his fucking mind singing it.
Medusa really got a bum deal in that story. So, she gets raped by Zeus, and as "punishment" for being RAPED she gets turned into the most hideous thing ever? And THEN we're supposed to cheer when some dick invades HER home and cuts her head off?
I love all the Greek mythology stuff. I'd really like to see a TV show dedicated to telling the whole story of Zeus etc. How badass would that be?

Quite. But having him turn into animals to have sex with mortal women would be kind of uncomfortable in prime time. How the hell they left Hera out of the remake is beyond me. Who doesn't love a jealous spiteful goddess a a plot device? But yeah, Greek culture was pretty misogynistic. Stupid bitch Athenian priestess shouldn't have been dressed in those slutty robes if she didn't want to be god-raped.
