When I first got my DVD player, one of the very first titles I HAD to have was The Evil Dead. So I got The Collectors Edition. And all was right with the world. Then came Evil Dead 2 and the numerous versions of that, then came Army of Darkness and the seemingly infinite numbers of that. Then came the deluxe version of the first movie - in a "Book of the Dead" style rubber packaging. Which I bought. Then came the same deal for Evil Dead 2 and even more versions of Army of Darkness. And lo - would you believe it? Yet ANOTHER version of Evil Dead. An ULTIMATE edition this time - all on 3 discs. www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/the-evil-dead.htmlIs this to rope in the 14 people who don't own this who actually want it yet, or simply to release this now before they move on to Blu-Ray and all the Special, Extended, Uncut, Millenium, Ultimate and Ultra editions they can churn out on that format? Double sigh.

Hi, Anchor Bay was recently bought out by STARZ! Entertainment, so the first reason this is being released is because they need to eliminate the older editions. Secondly, this DOES seem to be the version to end all previous versions BUT ONLY IF THEY FINALLY CLEAR THE GODDAMNED RIGHTS TO INCLUDE THE "WITHIN THE WOODS" SHORT THAT HELPED FINANCE "THE EVIL DEAD." Without it, it's worth as much as the last edition. Finally, AB needs to sell HALLOWEEN, EVIL DEAD TRILOGY and RE-ANIMATOR at least once a year or they'll be doomed to release CROSSROADS for an ETERNITY! ;D I own the AB UK 4 disc set of all 3 films and then the BOOK OF THE DEAD Editons of the first two films as well as the AB 2 disc of ARMY OF DARKNESS and the R3 ARMY OF DARKNESS which sports the Director's Cut in actual watchable quality. But I end there, UNLESS THEY FINALLY RELEASE "WITHIN THE WOODS" ON SOMETHING AND "ARMY OF DARKNESS" IN A "BOOK OF THE DEAD" EDITION WITH R3 QUALITY VIDEO FOR THE DIRECTOR'S CUT AND A BITING BOOK THAT FLAPS WHEN YOU MOVE YOUR HAND IN FRONT OF THE BOOK. Or am I being picky?

"Evil Dead" is my all-time favorite pure horror film but I will not buy another copy. You simply cannot top that awesome fucking Book of the Dead edition. I didn't double-dip on either sequel and I don't even have the best releases for those; I just refuse to play that game unless I am enticed with something truly awesome, like the upcoming "Blade Runner" set. And I still haven't bought "Halloween" (another all-time fave) because I just feel like as soon as I buy it some super-ultra-mega-goretacular-all-new lost director's cut four-disc edition will be announced and I'll get that feeling yet again.

I would buy any film if it had the word "goretacular" in it.
