Well, I just went out and blind-bought a Blu Ray again (man, that's fun to say). This time - The Social Network. Haven't watched it yet, but reviews and word of mouth make it sound pretty damn exceptional. A few weeks ago the subject of social networking and Facebook in particular came up in the Fortress of Solitude, where our very own King of the Monsters Trashcanman summed up his desire to join up with what seems like 99% of the known world. "Fuck. That. Shit." And a few months ago I would have been the exact same, except for having regarded with envious eyes, War of the Worlds style, Mrs C talking to long lost friends and workmates on Facebook. I suddenly decided I wanted in on the action. And you know what? It's great. I love it. In fact, when people DON'T have a Facebook account now, I tut and roll my eyes like they're from another fucking decade. But maybe they, and Trashy, are in the right. Read this article on social networking and suddenly, Skynet begins to look like Tetris. www.cracked.com/article_19029_6-things-social-networking-sites-need-to-stop-doing.html

...and that's why I will not support this bullshit. That stuff is terrifying. It's cool that you want to reconnect with old friends and whatnot. I do not. A middle-aged coworker of mine was telling me that there is this young woman who her ex-husband cheated on her with. The same woman then began dating her fucking nephew after that. She then cheated on him and still persisted in showing up at her house even with no reason to be there. So my coworker told me she literally moved to avoid this chick's crap. Sure 'nuff, she joins Facebook and now this woman wants to be her Facebook friend. For the most part, I'm just fine with leaving the people in my past exactly where they are. I'll give them hugs n handshakes when I see them on the street or wherever, but when I'm online it's not to be hassled by every person I've ever known AND every person they've ever known. It's part of the reason I prefer to use a pseudonym. I'm here to do what I want to do and having to respond to a bunch of bullshit and feeling I have to go "like" all of their stupid baby and doggy pictures because they "liked" my scathing political rant that actually offended them and will cause them to behave awkwardly towards me at our next family get-together or whatever is just something I have no interest in.

His real name is actually Victor Von EvilDark, but it wouldn't fit.

Turns out people just won't trust somebody with a name like Victor Von EvilDark. People and their damn preconceptions.
