Whoa. This is a whole new level of oversensitivity. Portal is a popular series of action puzzle games known for it's comedically abusive AI antagonists. That is to say that the appeal of the game is that robots taunt your character as you try to work your way through the game's puzzles. But apparently this premise is too much for this father. www.1up.com/news/portal-2-adoption-jokes-controversialSo anyways, I was in Morro Bay the other day and my son was wearing a t-shirt we bought there featuring a wicked-looking great white shark and i started thinking. Now, some years ago, such a beast killed a swimmer at that very beach. The question at hand is, should the family of the victim be deeply offended by the fact that people are wearing t-shirts depicting the thing that killed their loved one? One of my mantras in life is that it is much easier and wiser to adapt to the world than it is to attempt to force the rest of the world to adapt to you. If a trait of a character is pathetically taunted by robots for comedic value in a video game, I think it's safe to say that nobody is being harmed. Even if you happen to share the traits being remarked upon. IT'S A WORK OF FICTION! Not only that, but it is the villains doing the taunting. They are bad guys. They are not supposed to be nice. And I'm pretty sure that "fatty, fatty, adopted fatty" or whatever is not meant to declare the inferiority of the overweight adopted everywhere so much as it is meant to portray the desperate lameness of the characters doing the taunting. In conclusion:

Yeeesh, some people will complain about fucking anything. They're still trying to explain it to their son? What is there to explain? "Yeah, the video game bad guy is a dick. Don't worry about it." I think that's pretty much all you'd need.
See, I don't think video games with phrases like "fatty" are offensive. Kids have always, and will always, be subject to that sort of thing. Sucks, but it's life, and fretting over some video game isn't going to change anything.

What modern parents don't seem to get is that sheltering your kids does them zero favors. Eventually, they will be thrown to the wolves. The best thing to do is get them prepared for a world full of douchebags, assholes, and fuckheads by teaching them the inherent worthlessness of other people's opinions. Even make-believe robots' opinions.

Yeah when I left school I was a pregnant lesbian who gave my dad head for my pocket money..... Never did me any harm Happens regardless of what you let your kids watch. What TV and video games did for me at age 12 thru 16 was help me come up with new and interestingly abusive retaliations to the bullying. "Hey (In Cartman voice) your moms a great big slut... etc, Smeghead (red dwarf) & my personal fav "You are the great cornholio you need teepee for your bumhole" Yeah I got my ass kicked several times. My mouth doesn't have an off switch.

A pregnant lesbian, eh? Don't see that every day. I always laughed at bullies and/or ignored them. Kind of makes them think twice, like you know something they don't know. Surprisingly, never got my ass kicked.
