So Project Cafe currently has video gamers everywhere frothing at the mouth with speculation and gossip. The successor to the Wii. That sumbitch has got some BIG shoes to fill. So it's also being nicknamed Nintendo Stream, which could speculate that the Wii will take over from the PS3 and begin streaming movies and games. It's also been confirmed the games will be in High Def. No major surprises there, really. But could this console take over from the new 3D graphics available on the new DS? Imagine a full-size console boasting legit 3D graphics. Imagine Mario, in 3D High Def? Holy shit, now I'm foaming at the mouth. Here's a nice article about the new console and what one gamer in particular would love to see. www.1up.com/features/dream-nintendo-stream

Touch screen morphing controller compatible with every game system ever. Good luck with that, homes. I'm pretty captivated wondering what Nintendo has up it's sleeve. The mega-backwards-compatibility thing is actually kind of brilliant, but I don't see Nintendo basing the follow-up to the Wii on the premise that everybody kept their old NES, SNES, and N64 cartridges. That's what the Virtual Console is for. All Nintendo can do to real me back in at this point is cater to hardcore adult gamers with bitchin' exclusives. Aside from the age-old standards like Zelda and Metroid, they are frightfully thin on exclusives I'd actually want to play. No More Heroes looked wonderful (and is actually on it's way to the 360 and PS3), and Madworld are about it. Also, the direct sequel -almost 20 years in the making- to my favorite game of all time (Final Fantasy 4) was released exclusively on their Virtual Console . I'm still kind of bent that it hasn't come out on the DS. Even the PSP is getting it now, making that handheld look like a viable replacement for my DS -which I haven't played for some time- for the first time. The first thing a console needs is games I want to play, and I'm afraid Mario and Zelda don't cut it for me anymore in a post Mass Effect and GTA world. If they can match that level of quality in adult entertainment, Nintendo'll have earned back a gamer who (fondly) views them as nostalgia-peddlers.

No WAY man. I for one am more bothered about the level of game play than graphics. I much prefer the game play in Mario to GTA and funnily enough I am not bothered about whether the background looks like real trees or big green-spotted cocks protruding out the back of a castle. I would also argue the exclusives point. 3 Exclusives Nintendo have that are pretty close to unbeatable are Mario & Zelda as mentioned by your good self and Pokemon. The graphics on Zelda are about as cutting edge as you can get for a wii (which was never meant to rival the technology of the X-box & PS3 they were aimed specifically at families so they could interact with their kids). Pokemon has taken over the DS and its games just keep on giving. Also Mario is again supposed to cater to all ages so doesn't attempt real-life graphics. The graphics and game play on MG2 were breathtaking. The only criticism I have with The Wii is the non-backward compatibility. Yes there is an on-line store but the games they have are pretty bog-standard and sometimes you long to play the hidden gems that you had when you were young. The PS3 is all very good and that but beyond Singstar, SF4 & Sid Meier's civilization I barely play it. In fact the longest I spent on a game on the PS3 was on Theme Hospital which I bought of the PS Store and was originally for the PS. and and FTW!

I didn't say anything about graphics. But I don't like platformers as a general rule (Super Mario world on the SNES was the last one I enjoyed) and Zelda is very much an upgrade of the the same game over and over (oh joy, I got the silver boomerang.....again). My main point of contention with you, Mrs C, would have to be this: I have over 50 Xbox 360 games -all of which I really enjoyed- and there are at least 50 more I wish I had time (and money) for at the moment. Most Wii owners I know have about 5-10 games for it and don't even really like some of those. For me, that's the be-all-end-all. I don't want to play the same game for 5 years trying to "catch them all" because there's no other games worth playing until the new Zelda or Mario comes out. I like owning a console that has so many great games -most of which are geared towards adults- that I literally have to plan out every month which games are coming out when so I can save up enough money to get them. There's nothing at all wrong with this: But I like this more:

Thats a fair point. I myself don't really buy too many games outside of Mario, Zelda or Pokemon TBH. Mainly cos I don't have the time. Though I do like strategy games. Loved Sim City & theme park and wish they would make a new version of these for the WII. I Have Sim City for the PC and it has lost the game play that the SNES version had and I don't like it being too complicated. I also enjoy Age of Empires Immensely and wish they would hurry up and release another of those. So due to time restraints and my loyalty to my past platformers Nintendo and PC is where its at. Catch a swatch at this

What is that slice of badass? I really love sim and strategy games as well, and PC is sick with those. But I don't have the money to upgrade my PC for all the new games so I'm always at least a generation behind on PC gaming. Age of Empires had a pretty great DS title called "Mythologies" that I played the hell out of. Civilization is awesome too, when I have the time for it.

That would be Age of Empires: Mythology. Your PC should be able to handle it, I should imagine, 'cos it's about six years old or something.
This has all come from Mrs C, by the way. I find those games beyond tedious. I can't watch them for more than a minute before I want to destroy something.

I actually own Mythologies on the DS, but there is a distinct lack of bipedal three-headed dogs battling rock/lava monsters. The large-scale stuff probably got lost in downsizing the port.

Yeah That was a still from Age of Mythology. However as with most games this is in the pre game intro. The sprites during game play are impressive however if not exactly like those above. Also There is 3 headed dogs big eagle things, The Kraken, and all that lovely stuff. You need the Titan Expansion for it though. I bought the Age Of Mythologies along with the Titan expansion for about £20 about 6 years ago and it worked on my old and busted PC so should be ok with any older PC's. Only needs 128 mb of RAM and a 16mb Graphics card. So you should be fine and I reakon you could snipe it off E-bay for about a fiver now.
