Forgive me if there's already a thread for this. I did a search and came up with nothing.
Classic Media have recently released a new DVD set in North America containing seven Godzilla movies from the original '50s-'70s series of films, including the original 1954 masterpiece that started it all. All of the movies presented in this set boast both their uncut Japanese versions as well as their edited American versions, and audio/video quality is the best that it can be all around.
The movies featured in this set include:
That's seven movies in total, two versions apiece, all on 8 discs. What's more, the DVDs also boast a nice assortment of supplemental material. The American versions of each movie in the set (as well as the Japanese version of Godzilla) all feature audio commentaries by Godzilla experts (many of whom work for the popular news websites SciFi Japan and Monster Zero News). Each DVD in the set also contains a different mini-documentary about 10-15 minutes in length about different people and aspects that helped create the Godzilla series. There's also some other little bonus goodies to be had within these discs.
You can purchase this box set from Amazon US for only $53.99 by clicking HERE. For English-speaking Godzilla fans, it's worth every penny. These are the best presentations these seven movies have ever gotten on DVD anywhere in the world. Even if you already own most or all of the movies presented here, this set is well worth the upgrade. Unless you have the Japanese Region 2 DVDs (which feature no English subtitles or dubbing) then what you've seen can't even compare to the quality of these discs. Seeing these movies in all of their brimming, uncut, widescreen glory is like seeing them for the first time all over again.
Just bear in mind that the DVDs are Region 1 coded and use the NTSC color system (not PAL), so make sure your DVD player can handle them before you decide to make a purchase.
The first five DVDs in this set are also available individually, with All Monsters Attack and Terror of Mechagodzilla slated to be released separately as well in early 2008. But the box set is so much cheaper than the cumulative prices of all of the individual releases, so if you don't any of these DVDs yet, the box set is the way to go.
