Well, the News of the World, to be exact.
Dunno if this made any news over in the States, but right now everyone is talking about the fact that weekly British tabloid toilet paper The News of the World (part of Rupert Murdoch's stranglehold over the world) is closing down after 168 years in the biz.
Not due to dwindling sales or lack of interest.. but due to a phone hacking scandal. Basically, in order to get their tacky, hysterical headlines, in the past it has been revealed that journalists at the News of the World hacked into mobile phones of, to name just a few..
Milly Dowler - a schoolgirl who went missing in 2002. Journalists even opened and DELETED text messages, which led the police and her parents into thinking she may still be alive.
Several relatives of dead soldiers.
Numerous celebs
Miss X - a rape victim
Prince William and Prince Harry
And that's a highlighted few from a LONG list that also includes politicians and members of the police. All to sell some tawdry, low-brow rag.
End result? All the big money sponsors of the paper that help keep it afloat by paying for advertising pulled out, several journalists involved have been arrested, and charges against the paper are in their multi-millions. The paper prints its final edition this Sunday.
The press seem to answer to no-one. People are fucking hounded, day in day out, all because they want a career in the public eye. If anyone else was to camp outside someone's house waiting for them to come out, it'd be harassment, but because of the Freedom of the Press, these fuckers can hang around outside the homes and hotels of famous faces, taking their picture first thing in the morning and then getting some other talentless parasite to write about what a mess they look.
So any example of one of the worst "news"papers going out of business? Well, I feel fine.
