Well, it WAS supposed to be Mrs C's turn this time around, but that's been nixed as she's going away for a couple of weeks. So leave it to your old pal The Curmudgeon to come up with the goods once again.
You all know the drill by now. A song from a band or act you may know, you may not know that you may like or you may not like. I play it - you rate it. Simple as.
So, for week one I thought I'd start with a band pretty much everyone has heard of. And it's weird, because usually these stadium filling bands usually have a beginner period where they started off small, grew a small devoted fanbase and by, say, their second or even third album they would be massive. Think Kings of Leon (even though their new stuff is wretched). Think U2. Think R.E.M.
But don't think Coldplay. Because, OK, they had one single released when they first debuted on the music scene that went largely un-noticed, but then came Yellow, which was everywhere. Then the album wouldn't fuck off for months. In fact, Coldplay are one of a small selection of bands that have had EVERY album debut at number one. Quite an achievement.
And I was largely immune to their music up until a few months ago when for some reason I really started to like them, even though they had disappeared for a few years. Absence makes the heart grow fonder or something, I guess.
Anyway, their new single is great. Way more poppy and upbeat than what they're often perceived to be, it's not really the chorus that grabs you until the end, but you're drawn in with THAT guitar riff.
I got the link for the video from an American site, so fingers crossed it works. But probably won't.

Side note: separated at birth; Chris Martin
And WWE wrestler and internet darling Daniel Bryan..
Although I don't imagine Chris Martin gets fans chanting "you're gonna get your fucking head kicked in." Now THAT would be a gig to see.
