So the place where I work (the same place in that Belle & Sebastian video from Your Verdict: Week Three) has got traffic diversions, roadworks, roadblocks, massive signs with dates and times. It's a city centre, so it's already busy. Throwing about six spanners in the works has made it almost impossible to get to certain places.
I found out why last week, and my interest levels increased the more I knew.
The streets are being used for a film. Interest level - 30%
Brad Pitt stars. Interest level - 60%
Angelina Jolie is coming with him. Interest level - 68%
It's called World War Z. Interest level - 70%
The "Z" stands for "Zombie." Interest level - 100%
SO, uh, yeah. World War Z - a movie based on a critically acclaimed novel is being filmed over here (oddly enough though, they're changing all the signs to make it look American. Surely I'm not the only one who doesn't see the sense in that). And it's about a world after zombies take over.
Even better, the newspapers have really got invested in it all (can't think why, two of the biggest stars in the world coming to the UK). But the real gems are from the local papers that the guys sell on street corners. Today's headline? "THE ZOMBIES ARE HERE", and one great one, "RUN! RUN! ZOMBIES ATTACK CITY!"
The movie's out in 2012. Let's hope it's worth all the fuss.

The novel has really good buzz, but the film was put on hold for a while due to budget issues last I heard, so be scared. Hey, wait, Brad Pitt gets a 30% interest boost and Angelina Jolie on 8%? *cough*homo*cough*

Ha ha, I didn't even think of that when I wrote it. I should probably explain that Jolie is only coming to the UK WITH him.. she's not in it. So yeah, I was buzzed that Brad Pitt, star of far more awesome films than he's really given credit for (he's pretty much just regarded as a "hunk" to some people). But Inglorious Basterds, 12 Monkeys, Kalifornia, True Romance, Interview with a Vampire, Seven, Fight Club.... dude's got one hell of a C.V. And he is SUCH a dish.
I hadn't heard anything about the book or the movie until I saw those banners on the streets talking about all the forthcoming delays and stuff. And how does "we're short of money" become "let's fly from America and go to Britain and make it look like America" make sense?

Hollywood logic is the king of all oxymorons. I don't know if Kalifornia adds any luster to Pitt's fairly sterling filmography, but you're spot on about the rest of those. Also, here's some set pics for you: www.aintitcool.com/node/50895
