You know, I'd like to think I love movies, but when it comes to the most important award show for movies, I automatically switch right off.
I just think the whole affair is so mind-numbingly turgid, not so much from the film choice but the whole coverage, from What The Stars Are Wearing to the boring acceptance speeches.
In fact, scratch the Oscars; ANY award night is snooze night as far as I'm concerned. I usually never agree with the results anyway.
Does anyone else find award shows; Bafta's, Golden Globes, Oscars, Brits etc - one big turn off?

I do enjoy watching the show and seeing which flicks win what, even if I don't agree with many of the nominations or wins. Having Jon Stewart as the host always makes it all the more enjoyable to watch, but I never bother with the pre-show. Anybody who clamors over which stars are exemplifying which fashion trends on the red carpet is on my list of people whom I owe a hearty envelope of anthrax.

I, for one, am tired of seeing Hollywood pat itself on the back. Hell, I'm tired of ANY "back patting" these days. What the fuck? So some people sing better than others? So some people can act better than others. While I agree there's a place for them in society I'm afraid that they've made themselves more important than others. Do they need multi-million dollar salaries? Do they need mansions and cabins and homes in 4 different states not to mention that vacation spot in France? Jesus, there are homeless people starving to death and Steven Spielberg can rent himself an island to vacation at with his friends AND family!
Anyone see what's wrong with this picture?

In rUSssiA, Comics read YOU! And Finland defeated Russia. On. Their. OWN. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FinlandThey also have a more in-depth history. AND....Prince's Grandmother comes from Finland. Betcha didn't know that one, did ya? LOADS of Finns settled in Minnesota and Florida. The ones in Minnesota settled there since the nature is quite similar while the ones in Florida never want to face another dark and dismal winter again.

If there is one thing in this world I don't give a shit about, it's the Oscars. If there are two, it's the Oscars and Grammys. If there are three..... you get the idea. One big fucking advertisement for the entertainment industry's wares and more fuel for ignorant celebrity worship is all this nonsense is. Because idiots need to be told what to watch and what to listen to and have entirely subjective material rated for them. And if they give ONE MORE GODDAMN OSCAR to another average Pixar film over something like "Persepolis"... Again, you get the idea.
