Alright alright. I have fallen behind a tad - apologies let's imagine these aren't consecutive days ok? Next I on my good ol' list is -
Dispicable Me (U)
Genre: Animated
Film running length: 95 min
(excl trailers and advertisements)
UK release date: 15/10/2010
Directed by: Pierre Coffin, Chris Renaud
Country: United States
Language: English
Distributor: Universal Pictures
Who´s in it?
Steve Carell, Russell Brand, Jason Segel, Will Arnett
What´s the plot?
Animated fun for the whole family, ‘Despicable Me’ features the voices of Steve Carell, Jason Segal and Russell Brand.
Hidden beneath his house in a sedate suburban neighbourhood, surrounded by an army of minions, lives Gru – and he has big plans. For, armed with his arsenal of shrink rays, freeze rays, and battle-ready vehicles, Gru intends to steal the moon!
But then he meets three little orphan girls, who single Gru out as a potential Dad. Now the world’s greatest villain is about to face his greatest challenge.
My Rating: (*)(*)(*)** <3/5>
This film for me was like a warm cup of tea that you can feel in your stomach after you have drank it. It feels good, gives you a warm feeling and you sit and enjoy it for as long as you can. Steve Carell did fantastic in this movie – and personally I am not a big Steve Carell fan. But he and Russell Brand did very well to the good story arc which for me was a funny adventure.
I was even left with a “awh” expression. Cute kids, cute alien things, funny main characters. What more could you want. It had good morals and it reminded me so much of, a more child friendly version of Lemony Snicket’s A Series Of Unfortunate Events. I blame the kids on that account. This definitely does not take away from it though. Family film or a couples film, either way it is something that I enjoyed seeing and would even consider buying the DVD to expand my collection.
The film isn’t too long and doesn’t drag like some children’s films do. It’s just fun. My lack of explanation on this film really does me no favours but it is fun. I smiled and I came away feeling warmed from its capitalist, merchandise wanting creators. Well done Universal you caught me. Despicable me a must see.
Have you seen it? What are your thoughts? If you haven't seen it - why not? Would you if you could?
