Ran into this amusing piece just now:

I remember these. FOX News and that shithead Jack Thompson going apeshit over content in games they haven't even seen was just classic. Mass Effect's (very, very brief) sex scenes are less steamy and revealing than an average soap opera, and FOX literally referred to it as "hardcore porn". Hot Coffee was such a crock too. Let me remind you that it was left out of the final game. You had to literally hack your xbox/PS2 to see it and even then, the characters were FULLY CLOTHED. Behold:


How the hell does that get an AO rating? There was a game called Playboy: The Mansion released the had an M rating -the same as GTA or Halo- that had tons of nudity and much more sex in it (you could literally throw a party and pick two people as Hef and tell them to do it). And don't even get me started on Leisure Suit Larry: Magna Cum Laude. That one had a chick having cowgirl sex with a sports mascot screaming "Fuck me, Twiggy!" over and over. And she wasn't clothed. The only reason Hot Coffee was any kind of a big deal was because the media made it one.

My favorite has got to be the supposed furor over Mass Effect 3, though. BLONDE!? Oh my fucking god! How DARE some people like light-colored hair! That's so fucking sexist! I'm sooooooo mad! But wait, Mass Effect lets you create your own character from the ground up and any self-respecting RPGer is going to fully utilize this feature to make any Commander Sheperd they desire. Also, ME3 will import your character from the last two games as well so rest assured that nobody is using the default. So what exactly is the problem? Man, fuck those people. Seriously.

The technology may improve, but it's still the same stupid people rising up in fear against things they don't know or understand. Doesn't matter if it's Mortal Kombat in the 90's or GTA now, you spell out to these people in big, bold attention grabbing headlines WHY they should worry, and they won't question it, they'll just be told that it's wrong.

The same newspapers in Britain (the Sun and the Daily Star) that cry foul of scantily clad women in video games where children can gain access to them (despite the games being rated 18 and over) have a picture of a naked woman on page three every day. The same newspaper lying around in their house, of course.

Funnily enough, when I saw the game "Bully", I just KNEW that someone, somewhere, would be making a stink about it. "Bullying" (oh, and don't forget "cyber bullying") is THE big new thing to worry about, and I was surprised that game didn't actually make more headlines. I haven't played it, but if it was what it looked like, I knew it was only a matter of time before the wrong people heard about it.

But yeah, these are just fucking moronic. Oh no, some guys like girls with blonde hair! It's sexist and demeaning to women!

Bullying is the big thing on this side of the pond as well. As if there was some magic political correctness cure to stop kids from acting like jerks. Good luck with that, Mod Flanders's of the world. What's the saying? "Grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, Courage to change the things I can, And wisdom to know the difference." Yeah, these motherfuckers are batting 0-3 so far.
