How many 8-bit homages can you spot in this insane fucking mash-up of a game starring a classic Double Dragon villain? abobosbigadventure.com/Obligatory "my face when" reaction image: No joke. This game is real. Double Dragon meets Pro Wrestling meets Zelda meets Mega Man meets Contra-meets motherfucking Goonies meets Kung Fu meets Donkey Kong meets Punch Out-meets every other NES game evah! I am so goddamn going to play that when it comes out. Release date, boys! Give us a release date!

That is incredible. Simply incredible. The fact that so much time, effort and imagination went into a game that is released for free, when so much identikit, cut and paste bullshit that is the same fucking game engine over and over again and costing £40 a time is just.. wrong.
I can't wait to play this. WHAT A FIND, Trashy. Damn.

It says something that I have the latest games console on the market and yet I played this solidly for about 40 minutes.
Koopa's? Motherfuckin' Spy vs Spy??
Unimaginably glorious. The guys who created this should be RUNNING Nintendo, not just paying homage to them.

So can you save your game or is it played level by level or what? I plan to tackle it on my days off.

Yeah, you can save it as you play. And you unlock "medals" as you play. And just like traditional old skool NES games, it's fucking rock solid in some parts. Some asshole with a gun killed me about 3 times before I could even get a hit in.

Man, I've been having some wicked fun with this. My left hand hurts almost too much to type. Keyboard action platformers are not for me. If I had a controller, I'd probably have beaten this by now seeing as I played the hell out of every single game homaged so far, but as is it's kicking my ass at times. I'm up to the Megaman 2 level and good god is that fucker hard. I can get to the boss no problem, but I keep mixing up the buttons and getting smashed when he turns into that giant bot with only the head being vulnerable, and I've usually only got a couple of lives due to the horrible one-shot lasers snagging a few of my lives on the way. But even with the classic 8-bit difficulty, it is so worth it to get to the next level and see what awaits. I laughed like crazy after winning the his-own-turf Pro Wrestling boss battle to see Roddy Piper, The Undertaker, The Ultimate Warrior, and The Hulkster himself take turns rocking their signature finishers on my fallen foe. Also, my Abobo now has mermaid babies. So funny. Anyone catch the Last Starfighter reference? Awesome. Also, love the random enemy cameos. I remember Spy vs Spy on the NES. What an innovative game for the time. Having those fuckers come at me during a Double Dragon level brought back memories. Hell, just listening to the music on these familiar levels takes me waaaaaay back. The only mistake so far is that the Yoshi attack from the SMB water level originated on Super Mario World the SNES and not on the NES, so small foul there. Otherwise, Abobo's Big Adventure is certainly, as advertised, "The Ultimate Tribute to the NES". I'm almost dreading the final level, though. I predict the rocket cycles from Battletoads or something else mind-breakingly difficult.

Shit, I only got to the water level before dying because I suck at water levels. And yeah, the controls had me baffled there too. There's a WWE level?
I must investigate further.

...Well this has taken a while for me to find. I am disappointed in myself for not finding this much sooner. What can say TCM, this is something else. Well done. I would not have found this on my general throwing myself around the internet. It has everything doesn't it. Brings me right back to my first console the NES and the Sega Master System shortly after. I saw so many mash-ups in there I can't begin to pontificate how much love this is getting right now. I haven't made it to far into the game - YET. Found this post three hours ago and I am hammering away as much as I can - but I NEED TIME damn it. So far, so AWESOME. So yeah, gotta thank the fortress for this gem. THANKS and all that other respectful bullshit. Peace.

I actually ran right through the rest of the game after giving my fingers a rest. Duuuuuude. Best ending ever. Seriously. There was even a Ninja Scroll homage. I don't want to spoil anything, but damn I laughed until I cried at the ending of the final boss battle. "It's so bad!" My life is pretty much complete after beating this game. I wish I was still on Lunch so I could review it there and spread the love further. This game is my new god. Oh, and you can actually play co-op on the Contra level. How awesome is that? I demand a sequel.
