In Japan, Mcdonald's embraces it's inherent evilness in a way that just doesn't fly over here. If this isn't the creepiest set of fast food ads ever made, I don't know what the hell is.

Holy fuck... Trashman you have just brought fear to my life. That kind of childhood fear that makes you want to not exist any more. As it happens I am and have always hated shitting clowns thanks to Mrs.C and her love for pennywise... *shudders* THAT and this episode of "Are you afraid of the dark?" Alright - not so scary now but imagine being 9 years old sitting in the dark watching a tape of Nickelodeon shows that you recorded while you played away on ocarina of time. It's around ten pm and this fucking thing comes on. I swore I would never sleep well again. UGH. This McDonalds add has made me want to eat at KFC permanently. I am just glad that over here in the UK good old Ronald McFUCKING_Creepy is no longer the brand. They have all upgraded to "posher" looking restaurants - and by posh I mean Argos posh - the kind of posh that 30 quid from the benefits office will get you on Christmas deals those un-designer faux leather shitty coloured brown seats and green apples on every wall. I wouldn't care but McDonalds don't even fucking do Apples! If they did they would probably be ... the fucking worst thing in the world. What the fuck were Japan thinking? Oh let's scare our target market so much that the only way they will eat here is in the fucking afterlife. Good find though. My childhood fears were mostly based on television - well scary shit. Stuff that isn't REALLY scary but to a young one - shit awful. Take this cartoon - age range 7 - 12. I bring you "Courage the Cowardly Dog" Series 1, Episode 7. "King Ramses' Curse".
Again, this thing petrified me. What the shitting hell were cartoon network thinking?! No one, NO one with their right mind, testical or armed 9mm would actually think this is NORMAL? Surely? It was the bastards voice that did it - I'll return the slab Alright you paranormal fuck - with a BGF 9000! How d'ya like me now?!!

Seriously, man. I understand and appreciate Japanese culture more than most westerners, but the ONLY way those ads make any sense is if the horrific-sounding slogan at the end of them is "Eat at McDonalds or I will rape the shit out of you." I was discussing these with a friend at work and decided that the video shows them a little bit out of sequence and that there is a narrative there. First, he calls her from outside her apartment. Then he sneaks into the place through the door by undoing the latch. Then he lays in wait under her bed. Then we see him running from the scene of the crime. As to what horrific atrocity he is fleeing from....well, we'll leave that up to your imagination. Anyways, the mystery of why American brands don't do that well in Japan is probably solved. I wonder what their Xbox 360 commercials were like.

Here's the truth - if McDonald's aired that kind of thing in the UK I would eat 5 burgers every day until I dropped dead two weeks later. Those are fucking GENIUS.
In a world where we no longer even WATCH adverts or commercials, instead we just zip through them thanks to Sky+/Tivo (if we even bother watching them on TV at all, how many people watch ad-free streaming online?) all these people who make 30 second clips to make you want to buy shit must be pulling out their hair in frustration.
If the UK had an ad like this, not only would it be a talking point for those that HAD seen it ("holy shit, have you SEEN that new McDonald's advert?") it would be something you would purposefully look for and watch. THAT is the power of advertising.
In the early nineties, there were a series of coffee ads (featuring a young, smarmy, hateful Giles from Buffy) that centered on two horrible smug pricks falling in love. The ads were so popular they even had full pages dedicated to them in newspapers, urging viewers not to miss the latest ad and what time it would be aired. Can you imagine an ad having that kind of power now? Not a chance.
Unless they start using this shit. I fucking LOVE it.
