There was a thread a few days ago from the man with the plan, Trashcanman (that totally needs to be your catchphrase if you become a professional wrestler, Trashy), talking about the worrying trend of more and more content being available as downloadable content. Not a good sign. But, it's happening. And in a bit of a selfish move, because I own and adore the game, I thought I'd create a thread where we can discuss the Downloadable Content available in the game. What is there? What's worth getting? What's pointless? You get the idea. So, we'll start with what we DO know. This little lady is DLC, but comes available in (I think) all versions of the game included in the game. Sure to be a kick in the nuts for anyone who buys the game second-hand; you can only use that download her using that code once. Then there's Nightwing.. Fully playable character, and something I haven't got (yet). Anyone downloaded this? What do you get? Is there an actual story or is just replacing Batman in the same challenge maps? So that's the first Robin dealt with. Next up is the, er, third. A recently released one, still no idea what's included and if it's worth buying. I'm not actually sure Robin is available in the UK yet. Anyway, fancy playing as fat Batman (Fatman?) 70's Batman? Animated Batman? You can now. Also just announced as DLC is the news there is a Batcave (presumably hidden somewhere) in Arkham City. Again, no idea what it is or what its for, which is the sole purpose of this thread - sharing information etc. It can also serve as an all purpose discussion thread for my favourite game of the year. Example - how fucking annoying are those Victor Zsaz time trials?? And begin.

I actually thought the Zsasz calls were a snap. But FUCK those gliding/diving challenges. The Nghtwing DLC basically just gives you the character to use in challenge maps and a few more maps to challenge. They didn't even record voiceover for him. Chalk that up as a "no" for me. I file that sort of DLC under "things that should be unlockable in-game". Robin is the same, but apparently one of the challenge maps is set up like an old-school scrolling brawler (like Double Dragon) and has Black Mask as a boss. That's pretty damn cool, but I won't buy this sort of DLC at the price they are asking unless is comes with story objectives in the actual game. How hard would that be to add a few side missions to the Arkham City locale? Challenge maps are a fun diversion for sure, but honestly just having the Bat and the Cat is enough to keep me satisfied with those. I want new characters in story mode. It sounds to me like the Batcave DLC will also be just another challenge map. Strike three, Rocksteady. And that's before you try to charge me for alternate outfits. I got the Animated Series suit for my preorder and it looks like a cartoon character running around in the gritty, realistic world of Arkham City. No bueno. However the others look way better and I do love Catwoman's Animated Series alt, so consider that one a win. Me gusta. Arkham City would have been Game of the Year if Skyrim hadn't come out right after and stolen all the thunder. Easily the best comic book game of all time, dethroning Marvel Ultimate Alliance in my heart and mind (no small task).
