So nearly every tv show begins with a music video montage introducing the show via a catchy tune and a visual montage indicating the tone of the show to try and catch your interest. But I don't recall ever seeing any honors bestowed for the best of the best. So let's share our faves. There are cheesy classics like "Friends" and "The Addams Family", and recognizable instrumental themes like "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", and cartoon pop jingles like "Transformers" or The Flintstones", but which are your favorites. A great opening theme should inform you about the show, show off the characters, and get you pumped up to watch each episode. My first contributions to this topic are both animated.
First, the obvious one. No introduction necessary.
The couch gags alone cement this one.
Second, an obscure sci-fi anime that has an amazing song choice and perfectly executed visuals to go with it. Ergo Proxy.
Always gives me goosebumps.
What are your favorites?

Ah, getting into the 80's toons. Unforgettable. I remember somebody at work used to have the Friends theme on their iPod and somebody would clap every time. That X-Files opening is classic too.

My top two picks are both animated superheroes from the '90s.

Two comic classics for sure. Actually, I loved the one from the X-Men show the best out of that batch. Awesome theme.

I think we've had this discussion about theme MUSIC before, but opening credits is a totally different bag. No contest for me, here; THE best opening, that told the origin story, introduced the characters and had a fucking AMAZ-ING theme song were all the work of one 80s piece of Japanese madness that gained a cult following in the UK. Feel the force of.. Monkey. www.youtube.com/watch?v=UONDRp4-ApkIf you're not groovin' to that music, you're dead. Other notable considerations; Knight Rider (timeless music and great spoken word intro "a man... who does not exist.") A-Team (again, great music and the intro pretty much tells you all you need to know about the show). High up in my estimation goes to this, a song that still haunts me to this day. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bii-PIGprv8&feature=relatedWhat is not to adore?

The Pink panther intro is stupid.
The intro has NOTHING to do with the show. It starts off ok with animals which makes a little sense but would someone like to tell me why kids sliding down a slide or a guy riding a dune buggy has anything to do with this show at all? Also kid dressed like the stig driving a pink sports car is a very tenuous link if you ask me.
STOOOOOOOPid. But awesome tune.

Wow, I'd never heard of Monkey Magic. That was killer. An Asian live action show would never, ever fly in America, even today. Getting Chow Yun Phat into a minor role in a Disney flick was a fucking miracle and he's one of the greatest actors on the planet. I think the PP show had a very different intro over here too. It was just that classic horn riff from the films and the Pink Panther wandering around and shit. That older one you picked is just batshit insane.
