[/youtube] I'm probably the only one here fucking nerdy enough to be following the current fanboy diss-off between Carrie Fisher and William Shatner, but here's the origin of the story, which has been going on for weeks now. www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2397087,00.asp I think we can all agree that Fisher wins the argument, but the Shat wins at life. But with all this renewed hostility between Trek and Wars, there is a larger threat looming, and George Takei shall be the man to broker the peace by assuring us of our mutual doom as sci-fi fans should we continue to fight amongst each other.

Well, that was just the greatest thing ever.
It's nice to see the actual stars of their respective franchise knuckle down and get into the sorts of pointless debates and arguments that are usually reserved for the internet nerds. All in good fun, though. It's probably fair to say Star Trek does have a richer universe and mythology than Star Wars. The huge universe that's been created for Wars after the first three films has only come around through books and other formats that, well, no-one but die hard fans know about. Trek has, what, 50 years of TV shows to fall back on, let alone the huge amount of movies. All the history is right there on the screen.
And I'll be honest, I look forward to the next Star Trek movie. Any future Star Wars movies I look forward to about as much as an anal probe. In the end though, the eternal question of which is the better franchise, Star Wars or Star Trek? I think "it doesn't matter, they're both better than Twilight" is the only real answer.
God bless you, Mr Takei.

Trek is conceptual science fiction that is based on actual scientific theories and humanistic principles. Star Wars is more of a space fantasy with universal themes of spirituality and rooting for the underdog. They really don't have many similarities aside from both taking place in outer space. Apples and oranges. But like you said, although Wars may have a better past, Trek is looking real good for future installments while Lucas only has more pain in store for us.
