Hopefully going to see it today (Mrs C is ill, though, so possibly not). I'll avoid any and all spoilers for now, but "best popcorn comic book flick ever made" pretty much does it for me. Can't wait.

I actually did see this on Wednesday but only just got around to writing about it now. And... sigh. I won't lie. I was pretty damn disappointed with the whole thing.
And now I will stop lying about not lying, and say I fucking ADORED the Avengers movie.
I was actually thinking about this today, and I - genuinely - don't know how that movie could've been improved. The characters, dialogue and action were straight out of an Ultimates comic book (trust me, if you've read any of them, you'll know that's a compliment). The script was sharp, funny, smart and not afraid to embrace its comic book origins. A huge aircraft carrier flies? Fuck yeah it does, look. It's doing it now. Evil aliens scheming in space? Yeah, why not?
I'd really need to see it again to let it all sink in, but what a fucking RUSH. The bro-mance between Stark and Banner, the "puny God" smackdown, Captain America understanding the Wizard of Oz joke..
God almighty. Fucking perfect. Batman and Spider-Man, you have your work cut out this year.

Oh, Hulk said "puny god"? I couldn't fucking hear him over the THUNDEROUS FUCKING APPLAUSE. I saw his lips move, but I had no clue what he said. How about Natasha putting Loki in the palm of her hand? I have a mind to put that clip on youtube and paste a trollface on her at the "pwned" moment there. "U mad, god?" But you know how The Avengers can be improved? By releasing the three hour extended cut on DVD. Whedon says no because he hates overlong movies (specifically rom-coms) and I mostly agree with him on that since I find Apatow's films go from funny to tedious over their 2+ hour running time but when it comes to this kind of epicness, 3+ hours is fine by me. I love my Avatar, PJ's King Kong, and LOTR extended cuts and I've no doubt I'd enjoy Whedon's extended Avengers. This is the one time I hope the studio decides against him.

It's, like, the biggest film ever - EVER now or something, so I imagine the studio will double dip this one. A standard release will still sell more copies than the Bible, and then they can re-release the "Directors Cut" a few years later. Cynical as hell, but I can see that happening.
*SPOILER UP AHEAD*
By the way, Trash, did you sit in till the end and see the villain reveal?

Yep. How they are going to pull that one off, I'd love to see. The Infinity Gauntlet was easter-egged in Thor, so I wonder if the Mad Titan himself will be invading Asgard for a Thor sequel.
