www.youtube.com/watch?v=bGt-saFvkNkFour years after seeing Nick Fury reveal his plan for the Avenger Initiative at the end of Iron Man, it's so cool to see this thing finally coming together. This is the film I'm looking forward to the most this year. It'll be interesting to see how they follow up on the endings of Thor and Captain America.

For sure. I'm still not loving having Loki as the villain again, but if there is one dude in entertainment who almost always delivers for me in any medium, it's Joss Whedon. This thing appears to be coming together like a dream come true and even though I'd much rather have Ultron or a Skrull invasion for the Avengers to face, I'm pretty sure this film is going to kick every possible kind of ass.

They may not be Skrulls (Fox might own the film rights to them since they first appeared in Fantastic Four comics), but The Avengers definitely appear to be facing an alien invasion.

Yeah, but it'd be cooler if it was the Skrulls since they are the premiere aggressive alien race of the Marvel Universe. Hopefully it draws some mojo from The Ultimates, which featured most of the same guys battling Skrulls who went by a different name. It was badass.

OH. MY. FUCKING. GOD. That is the single coolest thing I have ever seen in my entire life. I came there to post that in spite of the fact that we've already posted too many Avengers things and found you'd beaten me to it. That trailer should go down in history as the most badass advert possible. Anyone else still have doubts about this cinematic nerdgasm?

Word has it that although the studio keeps saying that the aliens are not the Skrulls, inside sources (such as one of the developers of the tie-in video games) are saying "oh yes, they are". My guess is that they just aren't calling them that. The Ultimates (which is likely to be the primary source for this adaptation) had the Skrulls, but called them the Chitauri. Plus they had Nazi ties, so it would be pretty obvious to have them be the first challenge for The Avengers, along with Loki (who was also an antagonist in The Ultimates).

We're about a month away from release and the marketing campaign is starting to kick into high gear. New TV spots like this one show a closer look at Loki's alien army: Skrulls, Chitauri, or the aliens who shall remain nameless? I guess we'll find out.

Marvel Studios have their plans for the next two years laid out. They revealed today that their previously untitled film set for April 4, 2014 is a sequel to Captain America, in addition to Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 in 2013. movies.cosmicbooknews.com/content/captain-america-2-gets-april-4th-2014-release-dateI think it's odd that Marvel are planning to release the Thor and Cap sequels outside of summer. While Iron Man 3 is slated for May 3, 2013 and they have a still-untitled movie set for May 16, 2014, Thor 2 will be out November 15, 2013 and now Captain America 2 is an April release. All of the previous entries in this Marvel cinematic universe were released May through July. Granted, Thor and Captain America made $181 million and $176 million domestic, respectively, so they're not $200 million+ blockbuster franchises, but it makes me wonder if they're planning to cut the budgets accordingly. I actually wouldn't mind seeing a scaled-back Captain America film with fewer cliched explosion scenes, but how would that affect a Thor sequel that would (hopefully) be set at least partially in realms other than Earth?

Yeah, Cap doesn't require a big budget, but to do Thor properly as high fantasy, you can't really take those cuts without losing some quality. Supposedly Edgar Wright and Nick Frost have been working on an Ant Man movie as well, so having the character be in a future Avengers sequel (or even a cameo in the first one) is a definite possibility.

I think this is how the Marvel Avengers films release order will look when all is said and done: [/i] (2008) The Incredible Hulk (2008) Iron Man 2 (2010) Thor (2011) Captain America (2011) The Avengers (2012) Iron Man 3 (2013) Thor 2 (2013) Captain America 2 (2014) Ant-Man (2014) Doctor Strange (2015) Avengers 2 (2016)[/ul]

Been laying low on this subject for a while 'cos I kinda felt like the dumb kid in the background who doesn't know anything. I finally saw Iron Man 2 and I'm watching Thor on Wednesday, hopefully Cap will come soon after.
So, anyway, watched the trailer. What the ever loving FUCK is that dragon thing at the end? Holy shit. I've got a feeling that Hawkeye, amazing character as he is in the books, will get lost in the shuffle (seriously, Hulk, Thor, Iron Man, Cap.. who gives a shit about Robin Hood over there?)
It looks great. Really fucking great. Attention, Batman - your BIG rival is here.
