Time to celebrate awkwardly, politely and because you've been told to. So a guy blacks up, presumably to make people feel uncomfortable for not knowing more about black history in front of a black guy, and asks a selection of young people exactly what black history is, what it means to them, and what famous figures from black history can they name. You can probably guess what's coming, but some of the comments are just... wow. www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=XGeMy-6hnr0#!

Some people just aren't.... People don't... I don't really know how to approach the level of stupidity thrown at this video. I was surprised - good find curmudgeon.

The month that black history started? Holy fuck. And the guy who just said Martin Luther was good stuff too. Oh, and that that dude looked no sort of black. if he asked me how I celebrated BHM, the first thing I would have said was "asking people stupid questions in blackface seems like the popular thing to do...". Oh, and for those not in the know "one of my best friends is black" is almost always code for "I'm racist as fuck, but won't ever admit it in public."

Yeah, no way did that guy look even slightly black. Why they couldn't have just got, y'know, an actual black guy to ask the questions I don't know. What did blacking up have to do with it in the first place?
But that "drink Kool Aid and eat water melon" comment. Holy fuck. How young people can think like that in 2012 is fucking astonishing.

I read all of your comments and was all excited until 5 seconds into the video it said "at BYU." For one, I'd wager Utah has fewer black people than all other 48 states in the continental U.S., and for another, this is the college that kicked a kid off its nationally ranked basketball team because he admitted to having had premarital sex. With that knowledge already in hand, nothing in this video surprised me whatsoever. Except for the fact they actually found a black person on campus.

Fun fact: Mormon teachings (BYU being a Mormon University) actually state that dark skin coloring is a curse from God to make other races unappealing and keep the white race pure and "godlike". Who knew God was so into eugenics? www.ldslearning.org/book-of-mormon-curse-of-dark-skin.htm
