Goldeneye for the N64 is one of the most important and beloved first person shooters of all time. It's a game worthy of a real life tribute. But with all the rose-tinting that goes on with gamer nostalgia, sometimes it's a good thing to remember things as they actually were. In this case, that means buggy and occasionally infuriating. So ladies and gents, I bring you this live-action re-enactment of a classic level from one of the greatest shooters of all time.

That was great. I've never played Goldeneye (Mrs C was a devoted fan, but that was before we'd actually met), but they pretty much sum up the entire problem with a lot of these "companions" that these games have you saddled with.
It was a bit more sophisticated than this example (did she really get stuck walking into doors?), but Ashley, the girl you have to rescue and protect for a few (lonnnng) levels, is a total pain in the ass. Yeah, you can tell her to hide and she does and you can tell her to "wait!" and "follow me!" like she's a dog, but she exists simply to get slung over a bad guys shoulder and carried off while you're putting bullets into zombies heads.
One nice touch, though, is when she's up on a ledge and you use first person perspective to look up her skirt. She yells at you. I found this out through a magazine, not trying it myself for hours. Honest.

What game is that? Anyways, the first Dead Rising was kind of a nightmare. One of the major (although technically optional) goals in the game is to rescue other survivors from the zombie-infested mall and lead them back to safety. Good goddamn luck with that. They are slow as shit, suicidally stupid, and let pretty much every fucking zombie in their vicinity grab them so you can't go anywhere without stopping to clean the zombies off of them. And this in a game where getting in and out quickly before zombies surround you or the time for your current quest runs out is paramount. The sequel was MUCH better in that respect.

I bought Dead Rising 2 a few weeks ago, but just haven't had much time to play it. I've got the next two days to myself so that may change. The first level I played had you carrying your sick daughter threw a zombie infested mall or something, kicking back zombies as you run through it, and you seemed to lose points as the people all around you were killed, which bugged the shit out of me. It gets better than the first level, right? As for the Resident Evil game, it was the only one I ever actually played (and I fucking LOVED it). Resident Evil 4, for the Wii. Here's a link.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=BhDUbipB6VEHe's saving her from a million zombies. The least she could do is give him some sugar. Or have I been playing Army of Darkness too long?

Dead Rising 2 is awesome and yeah, that first level where it notifies you every time somebody dies drove me nuts too. Once you get into the story, learn the ropes, and level your guy up, it'll be awesome. Just remember to memorize the save point locations and use them every single chance you get. Dead Rising is brutally old-school in the sense that you can die almost any time and if you forget to save, it's on you.

I always found it weird the original didn't make the PS3 but the sequel did. It's probably going to be the next game I get serious about playing, so hopefully it's better than the first level, which I didn't care for much.
This is going back a bit, Trash, but is this the same game you were talking about a while back?

I don't know. It's not Dead Island (which I posted that epic trailer for), if that's what you mean, but I'm sure I've brought up DR previously as the original was one of my favorite 360 games for a long while and it' still probably my favorite zombie game after Left 4 Dead.
