It's been a while since Johnny Depp has been anywhere near The Curmudgeon's radar; the Pirates franchise got so dull and bloated I gave up on it after the second movie (I didn't really care for those 2 either), and whilst the likes of Public Enemies and Alice in Wonderland were seen, they didn't leave any kind of lasting impression. But when Depp teams up with Burton (for, what, the 623rd time now?) in a VAMPIRE movie, with Depp baring the fangs... yes, that is on my radar. I've never heard of the "cult soap" (it says here) that Dark Shadows came from, so I don't know if the shlocky, campy, tongue in cheek tone is in keeping with the original show. Couldn't agree more with the PotC - what a pile of over rated cock! I mean one was "okay" but I actually fell asleep to two...
In response to the trailer... "Class!" Seems decent!
By the by curmudgeon. I am using the proboards app on the iphone. Thought I would give it a whirl. Not bad. One downside is formatting posts and attachments. You can only put one picture/one link/one photo at any time and you cant intersplice into your cunning comment. But, its good for me, for now I can post on the go as nowadays i'm more on the move than at home in front of my PC. Maybe you wanna check it out?

Wow. Every single thing about that looked like a bad idea. Big admirer of Depp, bigger fan of Burton, and a vampire obsessive that found Dark Shadows (which was likely the genesis of the Twihard craze) to be fucking DULL the one time I tried to watch it. But this trailer. Just baffling. Fans of the slow, overdramatic, and sincere/drab supernatural soap opera romance of the source material are going to have a hard time getting behind this zany goof-fest with a comedic T-Rex, funk, and disco soundtrack and a vampire lead dropping Jack Sparrow one-liners all over the place. I really can't see this working out well for anybody.

I haven't seen (or even heard of) the original, but I dunno, I am fucking SICK of brooding, tortured soul romantic vampires. I haven't seen the original, but let's face it, if they were going to remake a soap opera with a vampire, it would be probably turn out more Twilight/ Vampire Diaries than True Blood.
So yeah, if we're not getting scary "kill every fucker in the room" vampires, then this is a nice change, and certainly something we haven't seen before. I'm interested.

It might be good, but I seriously doubt it if this trailer is any indication. Vampire comedy is a tricky slope to maneuver, and I don't know that Depp in full-on Jack Sparrow mode is the guy for it. Though I don't have any love for the source material, I do know that it has a shitload of devoted cult fanatics and I really don't see them taking Dark Shadows being turned into a farce too well. As a fan of cult entertainment myself, I can sympathize.
