After the media shit storm Gervais generated by using the word "mong" (and continuing to use it and not apologizing once) and the debate over what the word actually means (he stated from the beginning it was not an attack on people with Downs Syndrome, the newspapers and everyone else conveniently ignored that part). Anyway, now that's all settled down, what could Gervais possibly do? How about play a man with learning difficulties? Instead of playing it for cheap laughs or anything like that, though, "Derek" is said to be a far more gentle comedy than anything he's done before. And... hmmmm. I haven't seen it yet, but I just can't shake the feeling it's just Ricky Gervais with a Hitler hair-do. It starts on Thursday and I'll be front row centre.. I just can't see this being very good. I hope I'm wrong. www.nme.com/blog/index.php?blog=131&p=12082&title=can_derek_save_ricky_gervais_from_the_co&more=1&c=1

Gervais seems like an awesome dude, but sometimes being a really funny, spontaneous person doesn't translate to scripted drama or sitcom material. Pass.
