An instant, blind Blu-Ray buy for me was Machete. I'd heard about it but never seen it, and I just knew I'd love it. A Robert Rodriguez action exploitation homage? Count me fucking in. Plus, it came in a steelbook. Double sold. So I only watched it last week and turns out my Spider-Sense was right. It was awesome. Just on the right side of stupid without turning into farce, it was a pitch-perfect nod to the sort of crazy shit you just don't see in movies anymore. And it had all KINDS of hotness in it as well. So the "Machete will return in" bit at the end was something I took as another tongue in cheek reference to the movies it was aping, but it's legit. In February 2012, Deadline reported that Robert Rodriguez would be directing Machete Kills, with Danny Trejo returning as the vigilante hero. The new film finds Machete recruited by the U.S. government. He must battle his way through Mexico to take down a cartel leader and a billionaire arms dealer who has a plan to spread war across the planet with a weapon in space. The movie is aiming to begin filming in April.

Yup. It's happening. Does that mean I'll have to wait even longer for Sin City 2? Probably. But if having to watch two more films of Danny Trejo being awesome is my only complaint about the way Rodriguez is spending his time, than he's doing right by me.

I've been hearing that for years. I'll believe it when I see it. Love "A Dame to Kill For", but I am extremely leery about Miller writing anything new. That hasn't worked out for him/us in years.
