So how DO you follow up threads discussing the Beastie Boys, the Who and Blondie? How about a thread dedicated to an out-and-out pop song, which came out of nowhere and is now firmly rooted in my Favourite Songs of 2012 list. Carly Rae Jepsen is a name straight out of one of those Point Horror novels about 15 year old kids who drive Mercedes' and get stalked by vampires, and this song doesn't do anything particularly new or clever, but what it DOESN'T do is follow the formula that 99% of other chart hits these days follow. Hence, no mention of being "up in a club", no pointless rap interlude from some hip-hop for hire asshole and, wow, NO auto-tune. And it's SO sugary, bouncy and fun it's fucking impossible not to love. Go on, indulge yourself. www.youtube.com/watch?v=fWNaR-rxAic&ob=av2e

20 seconds into the vid and we're already in Twilight territory with dude who does too many push-ups taking his shot off because....you know....muscles. Man, do I wish it was socially acceptable for women to do that. That tattoo. God. Damn. It. I think my feelings are best represented by this youtube comment: "hey i just fucked you and this is crazy delete my number and keep the baby " Sorry, man. This one's going on the "Kill it With Fire" pile.

Bah, you old Curmu... uh. Pah.
I did a little more research into this girl, and turns out she was a contestant on Canadian Idol. She turned up with, get this, a guitar and, like, damn, sang a song she wrote herself. I just wanted the black judge to ask, "are you LOST, bitch??" I've never seen one of the imbeciles on any of the UK talent shows do that, so props to her for that, at least.

I think people used to try that on American Idol and they'd get told that they weren't what they were looking for. But the last couple seasons or so, I think I glimpsed some of the contestants playing guitar or piano. And a few clearly did not know how to play them and/or had the sound turned down to the point that their acoustic guitar was completely inaudible, which is to say it was only for looks. But I'm pretty sure they are still not allowed to create anything ever. You only get to sing your own material if it is really horrible and you are one of those idiots they laugh at during auditions.

So I'm resurrecting this thread due to the subsequent memeability of this horribly childish piece of shit song that won't let me get away from it so I have an excuse to post this image. Turns out this tune owes it's popularity to a "lol"-punctuated tweet from none other than Justin Bieber. Ick. www.nypost.com/p/entertainment/music/the_call_before_the_storm_k1S5hCSzAnleC90sFnfSNL Bieber decides what we hear on the radio and Twilight fanfiction is the top selling genre in American literature. If I may quote the great Phil Anselmo: "Fuck this world for all it's worth, every inch of planet Earth."

Ahe-he-hem "OMGUGUYSRLYDNTLIKETHSSONG?!OMGNOWAY?!" *headsdeskHARD* THAT is all.
WAIT... Actually no. I went and did a little research.
This little flippin video. I have never felt a rage like this before. Almost like I hate society and have lost faith in the world. These KIDS have more money than all of us put together here on Fortress and they spend there time working how? By doing things like this, in little groups with little smiles and UGH. Some things are better just left to the internet. GOOD GOD JUSTIN! Y U NO DIE?!

Well, true story; on the iTunes chart when this song first came out it went straight to number one and I'd never heard of it. So I Googled it and sure enough, Bieber's "seal of approval" was mentioned. I instantly hated it for that reason. And then I heard it. And I loved it. And fuck it, I still do. Like, not even in the "ironic" sense that's shown in that fucking awful video. I just DIG it, man. Like, no matter how many times I hear it I still love it. Sue me. Oh, and Carly Rae has positively rocketed into my Hot Girl Top 5. Oh yeah.
Never seen that video before, Quillguy and yeah, that is some nerve-shredding stuff. The only saving points are blonde hotness from High School Musical and Selena Gomez, who is just.. fuck me. Absolutely delicious.
Yeah, I dig Carly Rae Jepsen. Yeah I've seen all three High School Musicals and dug (two of) them, and I'm reading Hunger Games right damn now. I am a walking contradiction at times.

There is no massacre too brutal for the people in that video. Cannibal Corpse, Vinnie Paz, Immortal Technique, and the entire Hussein family put together could not devise something evil enough for those little fucktards. Speaking of which, C: let's test that girliepop threshold. Rate this puppy.

Oh, Jesus. The first time I saw that I thought it was one of those parody things. Turns out it's an actual attempt at a song. The dictionary definition of talentless. In 50 years time that song could be used as an example of the spoiled brat mentality of this generation. Not just bad, but fucking hateful. It's no "Call Me, Maybe", put it that way!
