So we were discussing the blind buyability of the nerdiest show on television the other day and I thought I'd start a thread to demonstrate just what kind of show we are dealing with here. Community is a show about a community college study group. Now I've been to community college and while it was a lot of fun in some ways, it is pretty fucking underwhelming and rife for parody. But since America's Reaganomics policies tell us that mass illiteracy will solve all of our problems, the lower and middle class have been priced out of higher education at universities so the prospect of true higher education is only available to valedictorians, athletes, the rich, and those willing to spend most of their life in debt. So community college it is. Anyways, this show really does capture the attitude most students have towards what we refer to as "high school 2.0", and features a character wit about as much respect for the fourth wall as Deadpool. I was feeling inspired after the recent 3 episode season finale showcase so this is my list of geeky Community gags that will force you to watch this show.
As part of the final season 3 showcase, the gang was forced into the most sophisticated 8 bit game ever created to compete for Pierce's inheritance. This may be the greatest thing shown on television since the Buffy musical.
Oh, and did anybody say "stop-motion animated Christmas special"?
Also, Abed is better at pop culture than human interaction. This gag lasted half an episode where a guy was clearly hitting on him and he uses it as an excuse to carry on about his theories regarding Farscape because it's so hard to find anyone to talk to about this stuff. It was an interesting mix of hilarious and a little sadness.
Seasons one and two each ended with a schoolwide paintball war, with the prize being priority for class registration. The entire school devolves into anarchy, post-apocalyptic social gang warfare, and a shitload of homages. Best. Season finales. Ever.
Are there Halloween episodes? Fuck yeah there are! Season one features Abed embodying the Dark Knight himself to hilarious effect.
Also, there is a Dungeons and Dragons episode, and it is AMAZING.
I'll go ahead and let you off on that note, but know first that I could do this shit all day. I didn't even get into Betty White drinking her own urine. There are three seasons of this. THIS SHOW MUST BE WATCHED. Six seasons and a movie. These are our demands, NBC.
