So I got Lou Reed's "Transformer" album last week. It's one of those records I've been meaning to buy for years but just never did, and it was actually a friend of mine who gave me it. Anyway, I'm angry at myself for not getting it sooner because I just know it would be up there with Bowie's Hunky Dory and Weezer's Pinkerton in my top ten albums ever list, if I'd grown up listening to it. So there are a couple of bonus acoustic demo tracks at the end of the album, as well as this great radio ad for the album itself when it first came out. Everything about this is great, not least because I'm pretty sure it's the guy who did the voice for the spoken word intro to Texas Chainsaw Massacre (although I could be wrong on that one). www.youtube.com/watch?v=TK4jF-qDIasI've never heard an ad like that for any other album. Not just talking about the music, but talking about the guy himself and labelling every other wannabe as pretenders when Reed is the "real thing." Awesome. I love this.

Fuck yeah. I'm not a fan of Reed's spoken word style, but that ad was the shit. It really does make me want to check that sucker out.

So do you think that WAS the guy from TCM doing the voice-over?

It's likely. It seems like that guy did a ton of voiceovers for grindhouse trailer back in the day so I'd imagine it wouldn't have been too much of a stretch to get him to do an ad for a musical artist.

Actually, John Larroquette did the opening VO for the movie:
The guy from the Lou Reed ad sounds like he did the VO for the trailer, though;
Yeah...my head knows a bit too much sometimes.

Wow, welcome back stranger!
You know, that is NOT the opening voice over that is in my head at all. I always remembered a deeper, slightly rougher voice than that one in the opening of the film. Hmmm.
You learn something new every day, I guess.

Thanks for the "welcome back," it's been too long!
I think you, like many others, probably have had TCM 2's opening in mind;
I blame this movie for the fact I am a TCM nut. I even own the LP soundtrack to it (TCM 2)...took me FOREVER to find it reasonable AND in playable condition!

Wow. TCM2. The movie where Leatherface pretends a chainsaw is his penis. Awesome movie for all the wrong reasons. Bold choice, my man. And fuck yeah, welcome back.

I remember being pretty damn young and in a video store in America, browsing through all the horror films. They had video cassettes of the first two TCM movies (they were still banned in the UK). I remember thinking the second movie ("the buzz is back!") looked AMAZING.
Anyway, the first movie lived up to that hype, and I was genuinely excited to see the sequel. Maybe because I didn't know beforehand what it was like (this was before the net) but I fucking LOATHED that movie. I thought it was just the biggest pile of shit ever, coming from my favourite every horror film to .. that. So disappointing.
Great spoken word intro, though. Far better than the movie deserves (and it may be that voice I remember).
