I have returned. I am alive but only just. I thought that there may be a possibility of the musical event of T in the Park swaying my choice this week. I was correct. We interrupt your regularly scheduled programme to bring you, Spector.
These bad boys have only been around a short while. They are indeed a five-piece rock band from London. It has gone on record that they sound like a cross between “Roxy Music”, “The Strokes”, “The Killers “, “Kanye West” , “Pulp” and “Frank Sinatra” according to Wikipedia. But I want to give you more than what Wikipedia can tell you. I discovered Spector at Evolution Festival, June 2012 in Newcastle, England. It was easy to say that this band I had never heard of before were my highlight of the festival (but that’s not saying too much), they rocked out and have a good stage presence. Now digging into them after Evo I discovered that iTunes only has TWO songs by them. I scratched my head with confusion to find that they only started up last year! Even more to my surprise they hadn’t even released their first album yet.
So I am happy to say these were a pleasant surprise. It got even better when I realised they were on the bill for T in the Park and could see them for a second time. I went and heck it got into my top five moments of T 12 as well. They are funny, charismatic, cheeky and I can only hope that big things are ahead for these guys, I was gutted when I was brought with a possibility that these guys maybe splitting up by Curmudgeon. I hope this is not the case as I want more, more music, more shows, more Spector.
They do have their debut album coming out in August 2012 aptly named “Enjoy it while it lasts”. So if you do like what I am about to throw out to you, keep your eyes wide and ears open. “Chevy Thunder”. This song for me is a bit of a crowd mover and makes me want to drink my drink a bit faster and start bashing my head about and scream out a few lyrics. Love it. It’s energetic and while I hear other people doing similar things it stands out in my head. This may or may not be for you but I hereby announce this awesome.
If you love it, you can get this bitch on iTunes (http://itunes.apple.com/gb/album/chevy-thunder-single/id499225331) along with the second out of three songs I would like to suggest “Celestine”. If you STILL want more may I throw you in the direction of a slower song but equally as kick ass. “Never Fade Away” alas I have only found it on Youtube and have yet to acquire a hard copy that I can pay for. I wonder what these people have in store for us? Only time will tell. If they do make it huge at least we can say we were there at the beginning eh? See you next week. The Quill Guy.
