I can only apologise for my tardiness this week to fight the forces of musical evil! Like the “Bat Man” I vanished for some years while the world fended for itself.
I have returned to you with a band this week. Yes, it is another ‘Rock’ band. This will not be the be all and end all however so sit tight. This week I bring you Yellow Card. I first got into these back in 2002 with their fourth album, Ocean Avenue. Not a surprise as such as before this they were under independent labels attempting to get their music out there and pin point what style of music they wanted to go with.
These guys have been around a long time anyway, especially for what kind of band they are. 1997. Same year as Nightwish AND The White Stripes. Seven albums in total and every one of them have something to offer. That is why I bring them to you. So no matter what you get your hands on, there is a piece of brilliance somewhere on the record. Something that should be noted is that the band changed members quite a lot especially when it came to Bass/Backing Vocals so this did change their sound over the years. Wikipedia being the sexy thing it is has given a fantastic little timeline for this. Useful if you’re interested. But i’m guessing being the cool people you are, you would probably wipe your arse with broken glass and aids. Just in case...
I bring you, their best song. “Way Away”. Others would disagree but this song is a rock, feel good, ear shattering classic for me. It featured on SSX 3 and continued to accompany me as I smashed other snowboarders in the face! If a track can do that well, then it’s probably worth a listen.
If you “DO” want more from these beasts, I would urge you to look at “Breathing” from Ocean Avenue, “The Takedown” of Paper Walls and “For You, and Your Denial”. All of these tracks are off their Major – Label albums so if you want a rougher gem go back to their earlier stuff. As I say – every disc has something to give. I could go on more but after Mrs.C’s comment on last week’s verdict “TLDR lol” I was unsure if I said a bit too much (Thoughts?). Either way ENJOY. I have a treat next week and different direction – see you on Wednesday, The Quill Guy.
