The forces of evil nearly won this week. The very music I am going to bring you was robbed from me by my mind, being altered obviously by the government, obviously because my government are all in favour of “BIElievers” and “Gleeks” and all those other annoying cunts that roam the social music scene like flea infested vermin. Needless to say for some reason that I can only put down to an X-files-esc story arc, I forgot to go to their damn gig on Monday. Anyway my combatant for this is the hearty steel of the internet as I proceed to throw them in the direction of the fortress at the speed of SOUND. Let’s do this.
I bring you “We Are Scientists”. 2000 saw the first appearance of these guys (although I didn’t hear them till late 2002/early 2003). If you liked ‘Spector’, i’m pretty confident you will like at least one song by these beautiful bastards. Five albums, 12 years, not too shabby. In my opinion, their second album “With Love & Squalor” is by far the best one. Even though it wasn’t the first I heard. With Love & Squalor, I thoroughly enjoyed every track and even found myself finding the lyrics easy to remember. It has a consistent sound and fits a whole range of moods (perfect). All the albums are worth a listen but most notably so, the “Crap Attack” album, released only a few months after WL&S. It’s a B-Side compilation album (Huzah!). I find these sorts of albums the most awesome. Old songs that are usually hidden little gems and stay the hell away from the mainstream charts.
One thing I can say about WAS is that they haven’t really changed much since they started. This may be a down fall or it could be a great thing. It depends how much you want to rape the shit out of your CD player/iPod/PC/Whateverthefuckyouuse with that one sound they do SO well. Without further a do I give you my featured song for the week – After Hours.
This easy to listen to tune from their fourth album “Brain Thrust Mastery” was quite big in the U.K. I think it is a good song to ease you into the groove of their stuff. Shows you what there about if you will. The video has a dull humour behind it but should not reflect badly on the song I figure. If you want to hear more I would suggest going back to their second album or even “Over & Out” the intro song on their debut album. Watch out for these guys as there making a new album as we speak. Not that I fucking heard any of it thanks to the sure brain altering powers of the world. So unfortunately I can’t comment if it’s going to be “THE SHIT” or “SHIT” – so you’ll have to secure yourself and hold onto something as this could go crAaAzy. Right? See you next week, The Quill Guy.
