The Dead Walk No More....

Well folks I thought I'd bring my second post to the fortress. Through the gates of solitude I bring a review on the second season of the very popular The Walking Dead based on the awesome comic book series.

I have to say that I am a huge fan of the TV series and now the comics and have fallen in love with most of the characters, my favorite being either Glen- the nerdy Asian or Andrea- the gun wielding law attorney.

I have found on most part the TV series has stuck to the plot lines from the comics, changing only on some parts to obviously fit more of a TV audience than the core comic readers. For example the death of one of the main characters in season two, was nothing like the comics-but it served that character well either way, ending their story in a fitting way. I wont spoil who. I also felt that each characters development was very well done and excellently scripted.

Furthermore after watching the season 2 finale, I am desperate to see season 3-moving on from Hershel's farm into the Prison location where the characters are held down the longest from the horde of the undead and the vast herds of flesh eaters. And needless to say the introduction to the most loved katana wielding character in the comics was just pure kick ass.

The effects in this show are quite well done, with the vast swells of undead all looking very gruesome. And in one moment, being a lover of gore had to replay one persons untimely demise over and over just to see the blood squirt up the side of window. However at times the blood effects can look a little comicy, which I'm not sure if I like. I guess time will tell on that one.

All in all. I am a huge fan. And welcome anyone who shares my passion. While season 2 did drop a little in the middle of the series, the whole show so far has been a flesh eating, on the edge of your seat ride that never truly fails to entertain. I can't wait for more zombies, more danger and a return to those characters that I have started to root for.

I fucking hated most of the second season of this show. The first season I enjoyed very very much, but I feel that the second season took about two episodes worth of material and streeeeetched it for a full season where almost nothing happens other than the characters arguing about the exact same things in an infinite loop. Spoilers ahead Shane should not have made it into season two. How many times did we have to sit and watch him rub his own head in exasperation and shout "I only want what's best for this group!" only to have Rick shout back "No IIIIIII only want what's best or this group!"? A full fucking season longer than we should have. And the characters all act like morons. Would Rick from the comics have left Sophie alone in the woods so he could have two zombies chase him for half a mile before turning around and braining them with a rock....you know, the same thing he could have done on the fucking spot before ditching her? Why did they let the children even go out from under the cars until the coast was clear? Would the comic have spent 10 issues looking for her? No. The characters in the comic all act reasonably and it moves at an exceedingly fast pace. No wasted time. No redundant content. All killer. No filler. The show has taken characters I love like Andrea and either made them so utterly unbearable that I wish death upon them or changed them to become utterly worthless (making Carol an old lady makes her useless for the next storyline) or omitted them altogether (Tyrese) in favor of characters that do nothing but take up space on the screen (T-Dog....nice name, there).

That said, the second half of the season had some great moments. Sophie's reveal was epic television any way you look at it. I did like Dale's death since I feel the show has to kill characters off to maintain the story's integrity, but it bums me out because his death in the comics was sssooooo much better. They really should have folded the "Fear the Hunters" storyline into the second season instead of focusing on Sophia being lost. It could have saved the entire season. With Shane dead, I have hopes that they won't fucking destroy season 3 with him, but I have very little faith in the show's writers at this point so I'm expecting them to find another way to make an epic story that was already written for them lame. Hopefully I'm wrong.

I gave up on Walking Dead about three or four episodes into the second season. Like Trashy, I thought the first season was some genuinely brilliant television; frightening, realistic, well written..and then the second season took a huge dump on all of it.

The characters were either boring non-events or whining bitches. I use Lost as a benchmark for pretty much all high profile supernatural drama, and you think of the writing involved in that show, and the unique, interesting, fully fleshed characters and smart, funny , intelligent dialogue .. and then compare it to the Walking Dead. Get off my fucking TV.
