So I owe you guys one bitching apology. Here's a heart felt Quillford "I'm Sorry". Last verdict - let's act like it didn't happen - yeah? I am late as well, the world has battled against my musical rebellion with actual things. Things such as hospital visits and that old gem of moving house. But fear not Fortress Warriors. I'm back and Week Seven is here for your viewing pleasure.
I bring you, Pearl Jam! Ever had that sexual urge that is SO powerful that you could grind a cement block and not feel a thing. This painful image now embedded in the sinews of your mind is exactly what I get when someone sticks one of Pear Jam's tracks on. If you are unfamiliar with these guys, it's a sad notion but it is never too late. Follow me as I take down the garden path showing you the way like a modern day - much cooler Clarence.
Pearl Jam. 22 Years (Give or take). 9 Albums. They really took off after their original band "Green River" didn't really go anywhere and a vocalist from Malfunkshun - Andrew Wood (someone they jammed with) over dosed. Like other Grunge bands these guys went through a lot of experimentation so do note like with Soundgarden and other 90's Alternate Rock bands. There are some 'Marmite' choices in there. You will either love them or hate them. There is only one album I really didn't take to and that is their latest 2009 album "Backspacer". If you end up liking their earlier stuff. Stay away I would urge as this tends to rehash a sound they just haven't got any more. Bad news aside - all the rest I have to say about them is good.
Alas I find Ten to be their best album. Good solid lyrics and a backbone of diverse musical excellence. Each track on their makes you want to put it on repeat - but you must not, not until you have heard it through once! So with that I would find this a good starting point as listening to it will give you a good idea on what your going to get from these guys. But what's even better is that, this is their first studio album. Amazing tracks such as "Alive" "Jeremy" and "Porch" reside on here and are what I recommend if you want some heavy grunge with beautiful lyrics. If your still wanting more after my selected track.
On top of that - a beauty I find with bands and sometimes a must is the ability to find B-Sides and bootlegs. These guys have LOTS. Which in my opinion is always brilliant! What you will find as you move further through the albums their sound becomes clearer and even calmer sometimes. Less grungy if you will and more rocky. Which is fine. But the next 7 albums are still in my top 100 and for good cause. I implore you to "take a dive" into Pearl Jam. With that I hesitate no more and I bring you my selected song. The every awesome "Even Flow" off their debut album "Ten".
This song starts with some angry stage antics and then ear shattering riffs. Then, the guys voice, it's almost charming. This song for me has the ability to fit most moods as well. This is a good chill song, a good get up and rock or even a swaying drunk theme. The solo's aswell are nothing to be chewed at. Let me know your thoughts fortress. I shall see you next time for week 8 where I have more musical fun install for you crazy b@#%&es.
