Read it an weep, boys: www.toplessrobot.com/2012/08/yep_joss_whedons_gonna_make_a_shield_show.phpJoss Whedon is spinning the Avengers off to television. How will this work out? No clue. Why are people so fucking in love with Agent Coulson and demanding he come back when they killed him off and bringing him back would be a cheap ploy(although extremely comic bookish)? Don't know. As always, I have a ton of faith in anything Whedon maintains creative control of, but I do wonder how a SHIELD show that probably won't have Nick Fury or Black Widow in it will get by. If they can't get the cast from the films, I don't really see how this will effectively tie into the movie universe and if they don't integrate familiar Marvel heroes and villains, what's the fucking point? I guess these are Whedon's problems now. I'm hoping for the best, but am seriously wondering about the logistics of doing something like this.

Yeah, I can't see this taking off without a major re-think. A show about SHIELD without Sam Jack is like a show about Spider-Man without Peter Parker. That shit just don't work. To many, hell, to ME, Shield fucking IS Nick Fury. Without him.. well, what's the point?
*AVENGERS SPOILER WARNING*
I'd always thought Coulson was going to come back as the Vision? In fact, weren't there rumours that he already WAS the Vision? (Being able to come into Stark Towers undetected etc).
I'll remain open minded on this one, but.. nah. Can't see it.

I'd heard that rumor as well, but I also heard a rumor that Two-Face wasn't dead at the end of TDK too so I don't put much stock in it. More likely they'll go the LMD route or otherwise say his death was all an act to motivate Cap and the rest. But taking out the big names you have Maria Hill, Mockingbird, Coulson, Jessica Drew (who actually had a tv series of her own in the conceptual stages so consider her a definite in), and Falcon as the most recognizable members. Not impressive. But SHIELD does have a long and extensive history so I have little doubt that there's plenty of material I haven't read for for Whedon to draw on (given the massive list of agents on the Wikipedia page) and I can see them pulling in some other Marvel players like Ms. Marvel or Vision who would fit into the organization pretty well to prep for future Avengers appearances. Either way, I'll be watching.

Here's a thing did anyone notice that it was Wesley out of angel playing Thanos' servant "The Other"? Yeah I can see how that might have gone unnoticed...

Haven't seen anything on this show just yet but seeing something with Wesley not being a slayer watcher with a fucking awful English accent may be interesting.

I did not notice that, Mrs. C. Nice catch. While I'm here, I've actually been thinking on this topic and I think this show could actually be a a really, really great thing to tie in with the movies. The lesser characters like Wasp, Ant-Man, Vision, Ms. Marvel, and whatnot could be slowly introduced and developeed as regulars on this show and then integrated into future films without having to do the origin thing. Kind of great idea, actually. The more I think about it, the better this show could turn out.

Yeah cool idea. The Other is probably going to feature in the next avengers film as it was in the teaser at the end of the film Qullford, after the credits rolled.
Also I believe Ant-man is already green-lit as an Edgar Wright "comedy" don't know how this will work in cohesion with the other characters as I didn't picture the character of ant man as particularly comical.

Right, I'd forgotten about that. There are actually two Ant-Men, one of which is a comical character, but I doubt they'd make a movie about him. I've never been of the opinion that Hank Pym could carry a blockbuster film so I think having him as an ensemble character in a SHIELD show would be preferable, but Wright is kind of brilliant so we'll see.

Yeah, that just looks like a bunch of stock Whedon characters that could exist in any of his shows. I mean, shit, the first one pretty much IS Buffy.
Hmmm. Yeah, they really need to bring in a few actual characters to get me more psyched for this one.
