So today chaps I went to a gig with Curmy. We went to see an old favorite of ours, a band called The Hives. A band so cool that their catchphrase is "The Hives Are Law You Are Crime" A Band so cool their names are: Howlin' Pelle Almqvist, Nicholaus Arson, Vigilante Carlstroem, Dr. Matt Destruction and Chris Dangerous. A Band so cool they released a "Best Of" after their 2nd album. A band so cool they name said "best Of" "Your New Favorite Band" Quite Possibly the coolest name for any album ever. and Finally a band whose live show banter is hands down some of the best chat I have heard at a gig. They are dramatic. They are funny. They are a bit more than slightly narcissistic (it is their "thing")and they kick some serious ass. I don't think I have pogo'ed at a gig properly for a good few years and tonight reminded me why I love going to gigs in the first place. Gigs have changed over the years for me. It has all gotten a bit pretentious to be honest but I have not seen this amount of crowd surfing, jumping, moshing and general madness at a gig in ages and it was brilliant. This is why I have picked them for you today. The song is 'Die Alright' and it just doesn't quit! www.youtube.com/watch?v=iXqujk-b7DIIf you liked this then you should really listen to some of their stuff and the aforementioned "Best Of" is a good place to start if you want to listen to a collection of hits before possibly diving in a bit deeper and buying their other albums. enjoy.

Fuck yes. No arguments here over the greatness of the Hives. Spectacularly entertaining live, and the music (more often than not) translates well to record as well. It's odd that you usually give us a few vids to look at Mrs C but picked just one today. Let me pick up the slack with this 2 minute slice of glorious noise. www.youtube.com/watch?v=pgQ8gph1kHs

Hey wait a minute, no WAY is that 12 weeks up already? Shit.
Well, we all know what that means. Thanks for playing, Mrs C.
And lo, the baton has been passed to The Curmudgeon himself.

The Hives managed a hit (Main Offender) over here during the brief indie rock resurgence with the likes of The Strokes and White Stripes. Sadly, they didn't turn out to be as big as Epitaph Records' other massive success stories. The HIves seem like they'd be amazing live. I love the pretend (I'm assuming) pompousness thing that clashes so hard with the simplicity and roughness of their actual music. They got that from The Ramones....except I'm still not sure if the Ramones were joking or not.
