I don't know the song "Die Young", but judging from the lyrics printed in the article, I'm thinking the song has precious little to with the mind-bogglingly horrific Kindergarten shooting in Connecticut. Simply including the words "die young" in a song well in advance of a tragedy (though believe it or not, this is not the first time a person or people have ever "died young") is no reason to be ashamed, nor is it the least bit controversial. Every time we have a tragedy in this country, we spend every minute on the "news" compiling pity porn videos with pictures of the victims and sad,sad music while simultaneously making instant household-name celebrities out of the vile people who carry out these kind of attacks. And it does not stop until the next one happens. It's all very tiresome, especially when you factor in the sum of worldwide atrocities we could give a fuck about some of which perpetuated by our own.

But anyways, Ke$ha's got to be moved down on the cool scale for first bragging about writing and rewriting the song and then claiming to have been FORCED to sing the lyrics. I guess in a Bill Clinton kind of way she could be telling the truth. If she was under contract for the album, they could have technically been forcing her to sing the song she wrote in order to fulfill the contract and finish the album they paid for...

OK, this makes no sense. She was MADE to sing a song she supposedly wrote herself? Was she possessed when she wrote it? "No, no, evil me, stop writing those horrible words that I'll agree to release as the lead single from my new record! I can't pose provocatively in my new video for this song that I hate for reasons that didn't actually fucking happen until six months after we filmed it. Nooo, stop!"

What a bizarre statement to make. Fair enough pull the song with some "oh, in the light of current tragic events I feel the lyrics no longer reflect how I personally feel anymore" or some PR spin bullshit. But to say she was FORCED? At what.. gunpoint? What happened to the oustpoken, rebellious, take no shit, grrrrrl power Ke$ha? Oh, of course. She never existed.

Besides, if you look up the songwriting credits to "Die Young" (which is nowhere NEAR as infectious and fun as "Tik Tok", by the way), you'll find that it wasn't just Ke$ha that was "forced" to write the song. It's actually credited to; Kesha Sebert, Lukasz Gottwald, Benjamin Levin, Henry Walter, Nate Ruess.

Damn, we've uncovered a whole songwriting slave trade, where people are forced to write lyrics they hate and are forced to sing for vast sums of money! Call the A-Team! Call Jack Bauer! Call Batman!

What really gets me about the whole thing, is that the song clearly has nothing at all even slightly offensive (except for general shitiness) or relevant to the tragedy in it? Here are some lyrics:

Okay, now if anybody an explain to me how that relates in any possible fucking way to a psychopath gunning down a classroom full of kindergarteners, I'd LOVE to hear it. because it has the word "die" and the word "young" in it? Is Billie Joel going to have to recant "Only the Good Die Young" as well, or does the inclusion of the word "good" make it okay since it's okay if a bunch of children die as long as we acknowledge they were good?
