Apologies for not even noticing a year has come and gone, but we were having family over and a party and.. ah, you know. Real life and shit. Anyways, it seems only fitting that we do note the passing of 2012 with one of its major breakout acts, a guy who has had enormous hype and media hooplah built around him since he surfaced. He's bringing guitars back! He's the next Bob Dylan! He's the saviour of music! And shit, he's only 18. When Jake Bugg's debut album was released it went straight to number one, keeping off the much delayed, and I'd imagine much more expensive to produce, new record from Leona Lewis. "I'm here to keep that X Factor shit off number one", he said. Well, shit, I loved him already after that. No gloss, no studio trickery, it sounds like something you could hear in a bar. Which is obviously the point. Take a listen; www.youtube.com/watch?v=VHLN6K640gQ

Impressive stuff for a kid that age. Then again, Dylan was a folk music scholar at a tender age as well. Good upbringing, I guess. He manages to make it sound timelessly folky and and contemporarily alternative rockish at the same time. Pretty cool.
