It's always a little humbling when someone knows something about your hero that you don't. Namely Prince, and namely that he performed at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the likes of Tom Petty, Steve Winwood and Jeff Lynne and that he caused a light bit of controversy over hogging the spotlight so damn much. So I was just shown this video by a guy I work with, and I had no idea that it'd ever happened before. Basically, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne, Dhanni (son of George) Harrison and, oh yeah, Prince, joined forces on stage to perform "While My Guitar Gently Weeps." So Prince is at the right, playing along, then he steps out and just.. fucking OWNS that shit. And you can tell he knows he's possibly overshadowing the other guys on stage, giving them cute little "follow THIS" smiles. Take a look; www.youtube.com/watch?v=6SFNW5F8K9YSo what do you think? It IS the "Rock and Roll" hall of fame, not the "everyone get their turn" hall of fame. Did he over-step the mark? Did he wear out his welcome? Or did he, in my opinion, just fucking burn up the stage?

Damn it, man, I showed you that here video years ago! And fuck yeah, it is awesome. It is just a fact that Prince has more natural charisma and ability than most other musicians and when you put him on a stage with or without a guitar, he's going to own it. That was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him to not only pay tribute to a hero, but to show what he can do as "just a guitarist" and he grabbed it with both hands. I'm not really sure what the complaint is. He was playing lead guitar, and he played a lead. It just so happened that lead was brilliant and Prince's ability as a performer far outshined the rest of the group. That's what they call being a star. With all respect to Petty and the other guys, they just got owned by a superior performer that night. No big deal. Would people have rather had an inferior performance?

Oh shit, no WAY did you show me that. Seriously? I have.. like... NO memory of that at all. When the guy at work mentioned it I had no idea what he was talking about and then he showed me the clip and I swear I've never seen that at all.
Wh... when did you show me this?

I don't know what's more depressing; the fact I have zero, I mean fucking ZERO memory of that entire video and post, or the fact I'm still using the same redundant phrases five years later.
Far OUT, dude.
