Quite what turned clowns, those innocent icons of fun, laughter and custard pies in the face into an icon of pant-shitting fear is something that remains a mystery. When did this happen? You don't see kids in 60's movies terrified of clowns. Imagine Dumbo with a circus full of fucking petrified kids. Those racist crows wouldn't have been half as funny then.

Anyway, here's a quick list of the scariest clowns from the history of cinema. There's a few glaring omissions, which I'll name later, but I'll share this for now.

Clowns in general don't really scare me, but man those things are fucking terrifying in horror films when used right. There was a bit of a running gag on Supernatural where a main character was afraid of clowns, and boy did they make good use of it.
