The question has been answered. How DO you portray a character calling himself The Mandarin that looks like THIS.. And not make it racist? How do you take something like magic rings and put it in a film that is more science fiction than fantasy? Take a look and see.. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ke1Y3P9D0BcSo it is just me.. or is that Hulk Buster armour at the end?

Does anyone else look at that old picture of Mandarin and not hear "Ooooooh, so solly, Mista Stock!"? But yeah, simple answer about the magic rings: make them tech instead. Trailer looks pretty epic, but I do wonder how this one's going to fare. It'd be the first trilogy I can think of since LOTR to successfully close itself out without falling to pieces. Honestly, I'd watch Revenge of the Sith every time given the choice between that, Spider-Man 3, The Dark Knight Rises, X-Men: The Last Stand, and The Matrix: Revolutions. That is to say, my hopes aren't high for this one. Maybe the change in creative teams will do the trick seeing that Iron Man 2 was already running out of steam after the original was what I consider to be the best comic book film ever. And that did kind of look like Hulkbuster armor at the end, but something about it screams "unmanned bot" at me.

Yeah, the comic book movie has never (in my opinion, I'm sure there's a million neckbeards that would disagree) made it to the third movie without a drastic drop in quality. Odds were against Iron Man from day one, though (little known character, car-crash actor) and look how that turned out. You never know, Tony Stark could break the curse.
What I'm most surprised about is the fact they've never addressed the alcoholism storyline. That's pretty much Stark's most famous battle, and they've barely hinted at it except for "Tony gets drunk sometimes, he so WACKY." I imagine the third film will be the last in the franchise, so I'm just puzzled why it's never came up in the films.

It could be part of the new film, but advertising it wouldn't sell too many tickets. They have clearly hinted at it seeing that the very first shot of Stark in the first film was of his alcoholic beverage, and obviously there was the (pretty lame) scene in Iron Man 2 addressing that maybe he doesn't have a handle on his drinking. We'll see if and how it's handled in this one.

I saw Iron Man 3 last night and I liked it a lot. Much more compelling and surprising than Iron Man 2 and one of the better Marvel Studios films overall. It's a very personal story for Tony Stark that sees him pushed to the brink physically and mentally, and Robert Downey Jr. brings an even greater sense of gravitas to the character than we've seen before. The writing is sharp and the action scenes are cleverly staged, showcasing Stark's ingenuity and really portraying Iron Man as a proper hero.
But a forewarning to fans of the Iron Man comic books: Do NOT go into this movie expecting a faithful interpretation of The Mandarin. I won't spoil it. What the filmmakers have done with the character here works in context and suits this story but it's about as far from a faithful live-action realization of The Mandarin as you can get. I'm not saying it's bad (it's not), I'm just saying to keep your expectations in perspective, lest you end up disappointed.

Well, it was a pretty good thing when they loosely adapted Whiplash so as long as it's done well, faithfulness can take a backseat. I'm taking my son to see it later today, and hoping that this isn't going to be another Dark Knight Rises where everyone but me blindly loves it without being able to give any real reasons why.

Alright, seen it. Not impressed. Not devastated, but not impressed either. I hope this is the end of Stark's solo acts since they seem to be completely tapped for ideas at this point. I hate that they ditched the metal motif of the soundtrack for goddamn Christmas music and pop, I hate that Iron Man is barely in it, I hate that Stark without the armor seemed more impressive than Iron Man, and that Stark comes off as a neurotic moron for a good portion of the story.
Conceptually, I thought the Mandarin bit was brilliant for its political implications, but narratively I would have preferred he be more straightforward since his videos were actually my favorite thing in the whole movie. And what was with that random 80's-style montage at the end? Fucking CORNY and extremely out of place. Also, I was extremely annoyed by the utter pointlessness of the post-credits scene. I waited through all that text for a shitty fucking joke and no implications about future Marvel stuff? FUCK. YOU.
Yeah, the curse of three remains, guys, and Marvel Studios' aura of invincibility ha been shattered in my eyes. Sorry. Hopefully Thor 2 works out, but my confidence is pretty shaken at this point. In my opinion, it wasn't as bad as Spidey 3 or TDKR, but it is as about as bad as X3 (which I didn't hate, mind you). It had some great bits and it was competently written and shot, but overall I just was not satisfied with what I saw onscreen. It was maybe better written than part 2, but the cast (aside from Kingsley) does not hold a candle to it. Where the hell is another Hulk movie? I'd much rather see that next than Cap or Thor.
