So they just canceled Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and shockingly a lot of Star Wars nerds have come flying out of the woodwork to defend a show that typically swung between passable and moronic for a full 5 seasons. It had some truly inspired episodes here and there, but overall it did more harm than good to Star Wars canon (picture a resurrected Darth Maul groveling and begging for his life as a final impression of the badass from Ep 1) and for me has come to symbolize for me the unrealized potential of the SWU overall. But on top of Disney canceling the show to spite Cartoon Network and create it's own show for it's own network, the House of Mouse has similarly axed some of the best shows on television over the past few years without batting an eye. Spectacular Spider-Man (2 seasons) was the best adaptation of the character yet, likewise The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes (2 seasons), Fantastic Four: World's Greatest Heroes (1 season), and Wolverine and the X-Men (1 season). All Marvel comic shows that were frankly some of the best shows on tv at the times they aired. All axed while much lamer shows with similar ratings stayed on the air.
So on top of Disney's "Here's an adorable puppy,. See how cute it is? Woops, snapped the little fuckers neck. Oh well, here's another one....woops! Sucks to be you!" approach to television, Cartoon Network has decided to be complete dicks as well. DC Nation has been a widely watched and praised CN staple with the Green Lantern show being pretty killer in spite of it's CG look, and Young Justice making sidekicks legitimately cool for the first time since.....ever. Woops! Both canceled. For what? For these:
Now, I am a defender of the kiddie anime-styled Teen Titans cartoon. The approach took some getting used to, but the show got better and better as it went on and got truly dark in places. But taking a comic book show that was already bordering on Powerpuff Girls territory and making it eve kiddier.....this is going to end badly.
The other slot will unsurprisingly be filled with yet another Batman show. This one:
Yes that is Alfred in a bowler going full John Woo, yes that is Katana as his other sidekick (why?), and yes I have no idea why Pig-Man, The Frog, and white-haired Pixar Lady (at least I assume those are their names) are in the background. Villains? Because Batman has so many awesome and iconic villains I can't imagine why they'd want to utilize them. That'd just be dumb.
So much crap on tv. Hundreds of channels with dozens of shitty shows with negligible followings apiece. Thousands and thousands of hours of boring shit. So why is it whenever something worth watching comes along, it's killed with fire? Because fuck you, Disney, and fuck you, Cartoon Network. That's why.
