Sorry, I was trying to come up with a snappier title but ... well, I don't have one. Basically, I thought this would be a good thread dedicated to songs not just about a boy meeting a girl or being all up in a club or any of the other standard topics that are repeated every other day in music.
Today we're going to play some music that references the things WE'RE into. Not anything as obvious as the Ramones singing the Spider-Man intro, but a name-check here and there or sly references to pop culture icons? That's what we're talking about today.
My two out of the bag today? Well, who doesn't love vampires? And who doesn't love Bis? No-one I want to have any dealings with either. (Plus, does anyone know the movie that is sampled around the 01:48 mark?)
And a 50 second heartfelt rock ode to Archie comics? Step right up.
That's two from me? Whatta ya got?

Metal is full of comic book nerds and obsessors of the undead. I'm sure there's dozens of songs referencing cool things on my Ipod, but a few such tracks come to mind right away.
Holy Wars... The Punishment Due by Megadeth
This one is actually a two part song lyrically, but the 2nd half (starting at 2:26) is about The Punisher, my favorite Marvel character. Dave Mustaine, the man behind the awesome, has actually written multiple songs about Frank Castle.
Outnumbered by The Devil Wears Prada
Can't say I'm the biggest fan of this band, but their first release, Zombie EP, contains 5 nasty tracks all about the zombie apocalypse. This one is my favorite of them.

God, where to start....
This classic rock track is rather obvious...
BOC pretty much built their career singing about horror and sci-fi stories.
Also, gold star to anyone who can pin down what jaw-dropping Twilight Zone episode Anthrax wrote this one about using actual lines from the show as lyrics:
Anthrax were always the nerdiest metal band, and the ones who didn't take their image seriously, but fuck, their political lyrics smash most of the mean-faced thrash bands to pieces.
Here's Concrete Blonde on vampires:

Not my sort of thing at all, but Jesus, that Outnumbered song sounds brutal. If there ever is a zombie outbreak, I'd imagine that's how it's going to sound.
I've never heard the BOC "Godzilla" song either, but I kinda love it already. Why is that not better known? I had actually heard that Belly of the Beast song before but had no idea it was a reference to a Twilight Zone episode. Super geeky. Is it a good episode?

The best in my opinion. It's called "Death's Head Revisited", and it will likely knock you on your ass. vimeo.com/31183266I thought Godzilla was a better known song. Maybe BOC's fame didn't didn't make the trip across the Atlantic. "Spectres" is a great album all around and also features a song that is just as good if not better about Nosferatu.
