So Scott Weiland is out of Stone Temple Pilots for the 10th time or whatever. It happens. But what happens when a classic band decides to replace an irreplaceable singer? Usually they hire an impersonator and end up playing county fairs. But STP wants more so one of the biggest bands of the 90's went ahead and hired the singer to one of the biggest bands of the 00's. Stone Temple Park? Yeah, that's a thing now. www.craveonline.com/music/articles/502639-exclusive-photos-stone-temple-pilots-return-with-chester-bennington-of-linkin-park#/slide/1Now, I don't hate Linkin Park's music, and Bennington's voice isn't even much of a problem, but trying to imagine them writing and recording whiny emo shit like what he writes hurts my soul. Weiland was a unique, poetic, talented, writer and a dynamo onstage. Bennington is a whiny, sniveling man-child who sounds like he's perpetually angry at his parents. I could see him doing some of the old stuff decently, but I won't be listening to any of STP's new material.

Well, it's a tricky one. I read (on Wikipedia, take it for what it's worth) that Scott's voice was no longer able to do the songs justice. They'd planned a 20th Anniversary tour of the Core record and he couldn't hit the notes. Plus he wanted to go solo and do the album himself on tour, effectively saying "fuck you" to the rest of the band.
So what would you choose? A guy on stage who can't sing the songs, doesn't want to be on stage with the rest of the band and is clearly there for money.
OR - a guy who CAN sing the songs, is obviously there because he loves the band (and clearly doesn't need the cash), but..well, just isn't Scott Weiland. Difficult choice if you think about it that way.

Well, Weiland's solo shit is....well, shit so I don't know why he'd want to do that. I don't know about him not hitting the notes, but assuming he's all fucked up on heroin again, I can see why the band would ditch him again. But if you are going to replace a unique singer with another big-name singer, I'd think they'd at least change the band's name. Audioslave didn't tour as Rage Against the Machine, even though they played Rage songs live and Velvet Revolver didn't tour as Guns' n' Roses. Would I pay to see STP perform Core with the dude from Linkin Park? I would not. It might be an interesting novelty, but as a long-time STP fan, I'm just not that interested.
