Promoting a new single can be a costly, tedious affair. Promo shots, expensive video, interviews. If you're Britain's Biggest Pop Star (tm) you would imagine that's pretty much inescapable. Unless you happen to be Robbie Williams, certainly Britain's Biggest Pop Star, but who instead of shooting a big glossy video, sat on his couch and got someone to film him singing to random strangers on a webcam.
"Don't go into the sex trade" is my new way of saying goodbye.

Well, fuck my life. UMG be blockin' the content up in muh country. Because why would any artist want exposure in lame ass America? It's only the biggest consumer audience on the planet.

Nope. Nope. Score!
I think Robbie Williams just made me a little bit gay for him. That was fucking life-affirming. Great music, cool, and funny as all hell. America hasn't had a male pop star as good since Elvis.

Actually, I just thought of another. Billy Joel. I don't know where my goddamn brain was.

Uh, HELLO, aren't you forgetting someone else..?? Get your head in the game, Trash. And you know, it's funny seeing someone who's fiercely into "real" music being so open and willing to enjoy a Robbie Williams track. Because of his boyband past and his sheer ubiquity, it's pretty common and acceptable to blindly hate Robbie Williams, regardless of what he releases. It's pretty refreshing to see someone actually just like a song and a video without resorting to "OMG! Robby SUX!" Good for you.

I just care about the music. If Beiber puts out something legitimately great, I'll admit it. Not holding my breath on that, though. I got that double best-of album from RW and damn near every song is good. That's pretty impressive. 20+ years of consistently good tunes is not an easy thing for a pop musician to do. Even Madonna couldn't manage that. Even though Prince still puts out quality music and sells out tours, he's not really much of a media presence these days, and Jackson's musical career floundered after the mid-90s so that makes the fact that Williams is still such a big deal a really big deal when you put it in perspective.
