ARGHHHHH. Sorry, I appear to be missing a couple of key chest components that Kelis has to really do that one justice. Anyway, here's a fun list of the most hated artists on the planet (with a format that is spookily similar to a new thread coming THIS weekend, friends!) on the most hated artists on the planet. It's a bit US-centric for my likes (some of these guys I've never even heard of, and I'm sure a British list would almost be completely different) but it's a fun read, even if number one is WAY off. Surely the person who is (in)famous and who's very name is now synonymous with breaking up a group should be number one? Anyway, take a look.. www.spin.com/articles/hated-nation-30-biggest-punching-bags-pop-historyThe one glaring omission in my mind, regardless of where the article was written? Making bad music is one charge, but when a huge number of people personally blame you for murdering the spokesperson for a generation, I can see why a lot of people wouldn't like you too much.

Love is arguably the most hateable and useless artist this side of Chris Brown, but the media LOVES her so she will not ever show up in a mainstream publication on a list like that, unless it's incidentally like if she perpetuated a rumor that Candlebox was from Los Angeles. SO WHAT IF THEY WERE? The Sex Pistols weren't from New York, but that doesn't mean they couldn't play punk music. Not that I give a shit about Candlebox, but at least make relevant points if you're going to attack a band. Likewise Lana Del Ray. Are people still being shocked that when counterculture becomes profitable, people try to profit from it? Her music is good and that is all the fucks I have to give about that.
Wait, the defense of the BEP's is that they are "engineering music to appeal to the most people on the planet". Isn't that the exact definition of soullessness? Smash Mouth's debut album was actually pretty good. And THEY ARE SKA PUNK. Do your research, Spin. And Journey above Puff Daddy? BULLSHIT. The Diddy hate has already outlasted his music. Rock Star is Nickelback's defense? "Hey, these guys wrote the worst rock song of the past 20 years, they can't be all bad!" Nice one.

So. Much. RAAAAGE. Good for you.
I think they tried a "prosecution" and "defence" angle here, which would explain trying to defend the Black Eyed Peas. When you're only defence is that they appeal to a wide variety of people, you're pretty much reaching.
Again, it's a US article so bands like Smashmouth and Candlebox mean little to UK readers. And you actually mentioned Chris Brown, someone this article missed out on completely. Has there been a more hated figure than Brown this decade? Well, except Justin Bieber, and where was HE? And if we're taking pot shots at Lana Del Rey regarding style over substance, doesn't Lady Gaga receive similar criticism?
This list sucked!

I actually subscribed to Spin and Rolling Stone at one point, and it was horrible. Being subjected to mainstream publications like that on a monthly basis is something I wouldn't wish on any true music fan.

I subscribe to British magazines Q and NME. I've read Rolling Stone and Spin from time to time, they seem to lack the humour that the British magazines have.
